So having sold my ktm smt 990 and blackbird last year, I need a bike again. However, sadly, on a budget!

I'd have a ktm 990 superduke in a heartbeat, but out of my budget.

Is there anything for £1.5k ish that will be decent? First thought was SV650.

Guess I need a left field suggestion.
Use will be just fun days out, not riding super hard, but some handling would be nice.
Handy with a spanner so happy to do some work. But would need to be factored into budget.
Maybe just save for the ktm!

Thanks for your thoughts and time

I had a SV650 for 16 years, decent bike but built to a budget. Buy one if these. They are stupidly cheap for the spec. Better in every way.

My mate has a Ducati ST2 which is great fun. Not as fast as the Falco but I really rate it. They are also very cheap.

You'll get a decent Firestorm for that money but I wasnt overly keen on mine after an initial surge of enthusiasm..

I had a Falco in red from new. The engine and chassis were great. The rest of it though..

There are threads on here about what to look out for, if you do a search.

Go for an SV1000 or TL1000S. Or a 2 valve Ducati.

Cheers. Seems a lot for sale have suspension changed, which I could refresh.
What else was the issue?

V4 worth considering ?

If so VFR750 / 800 are a bargain IMO however the SV650 is the default choice for a reason

VFR would be my choice for the engine alone, never mind Honda reliability

I’d have a VFR750/800 over any low budget V-Twin. At £1.5k a VFR will offer more value for money over anything else I could think of.
I’ve had my first VFR750 (when only 2 years old) since 1993, the second around 4 years and the 3rd, an RVF400 for about 3 years. Something special about gear driven cam V4’s.

Vtec or pre?

I was not thinking of them, I figured it would be heavy and a bit naff. Maybe I judged wrong.

Really I'd prefer a more upright positing, the falco is a bit bent but beggars cant be chooses and a tuono is too much.

Ideally one would be able to ride a few!

Will look into them, cheers.

The Ducati ST is very comfortable, much more than my Falco. Mine you I put the clip-ons above the yokes on my bike and that's helped a lot.

V2 Tuono's used to be in budget untill a year or two ago.

I'd be looking for a pre-VTEC as they're supposed to be better. No personal experience mind.

In honesty I'd rather blow the budget than go non twin. Unless I can find the engine character in another format. Having ridden a few formats twins are my thing, a lot of fun.

I'm not an expert just have read a lot and don't want straight 4 bikes.

They are well regarded as a great do everything and cheap for what they are some fit bars to raise their hands - pre vtec better (and post is out of budget)

Yes the lack of ability to test bikes - certainly for the last 2 months is a pain, I've just bought another bike without sitting on it (ebay purchase) and was shocked how bent my legs are - now buying lower pegs.

If you want something cheap to throw about the SV650 is probably it, I nearly bought one but a decent one is £2k and for £3k you can get a good street triple.
