Watched a guy riding his sports bike along last week, lovely sunny warm day. His gear was
Trainers
shorts
T shirt
no gloves
But at least he was wearing a ‘lid’.
Why do some riders not understand the risk they are running?
I know it a freedom of choice, but personally I wish the Government would legislate the wearing of
protective gear when riding.
Am I wrong to want this, having seen the result of an off with zero clothing protection.

Ok we have a helmet law but I think more legislation is best avoided. It's just another layer of bureaucracy and debate as to what constitutes approved protective equipment. Best left alone.

If people are daft enough to ride round in trainers, shorts and a T shirt then they are on the pre-qualification shortlist for the Darwin awards. Best leave them to it.

Darwinism.
I couldn't really care less if someone is daft enough to risk skinning themselves: at least they'll depart the earth quickly!
I bet the bloke the OP saw was having a right adrenaline fueled laugh though....

I'm against legislation too.

If we start outlawing everything that's dangerous it's a slippery slope leading to motorcycling being banned

every year, every time we get good weather.

If a lid is all that is required then that's fine with me. I don't want to changed, not that I go out in flip flops and a tee

it's there skin so why do i care.

Where at? It could have been me.

I was working from the office for a couple of days and needed to nip out down the road for a sandwich.

I met a guy years ago, in the late 70s, who came off of his Bonnie whilst wearing a singlet, shorts and trainers. He apparently looked like strawberry jam.

Unfortunately the person that pulls out in front of you does not know you were only nipping out....you knew that though and I suspect you were posting to cause debate or point out the riders obvious stupidity?

Exactly. Do we really need this preachy nonsense every time? We know the risks. some of us do it anyway. Live and let live, FFS.

Wait till you see someone riding one of those 3 wheeler scooter things wearing no lid because it's a tricycle so legal.

The grief the guy was getting from other bikers at the lights made my day. The tool was riding like a proper bellend too.

Darwinism.

Cliché retort is clichéd.

Their skin their choice.

It’s not the way I chose to ride, but it’s not going to increase harm anyone else, so doesn’t require legislation. I’d go as far as to say the same should apply to helmets, but the ship has sailed on that one.

My garage is 20 minute walk away, I’d rather not have to walk there in full gear every time I want to ride so I generally trot down with my lid and gloves, then ride back home the half mile to change. Be a right ball ache if I the law forced me to be fully suited up every time I hit the starter button

So why not keep your bike gear in the garage?

Their choice .....I do cringe when I see them though, I just imagine the worst.......I learnt my lesson about wearing protective gear as a teenager mucking about on field bikes and still have various scars to remind me.

I just figure these people cannot have fallen off yet......

Because I don’t want to keep my clothes in a sometimes damp and humid, rented lockup garage? What’s the right answer here. I’d rather not risk a few grands worth of bike gear along with the bikes if there’s a break in?
