Hi all,

What do you think think?

I’ve got a track day booked in early July (Silverstone). I’ve just noticed my bike (BMW RR) was last serviced in March last year and needs its annual service. Unfortunately my local deal does have an service slots until after my track day. The bike has only covered 20 miles since it’s last service.

Do I need to service it before the track day or do you think it’s ok to service afterwards?

P.s the bike hit it’s 3rd bday in March and has just passed its mot, they Also put new front brakes on it.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Cheers

See you at Silverstone Saturday 11th( sorry, a bit creepy, I don't know you but i'll be there, a red Ducati V2). That's when my day was rescheduled for, the pits should be nice and roomy!

You don't need too. Just don't try and say its got a full service history when you come to sell it.
Services are miles OR annual, whichever comes first.

Lost count of the amount of 8 year old bikes with ~4k miles on with 'full' service history that has had 2 in that 8 years.

Might be worth checking if the front pads need bedding in

I have emails from Kawasaki confirming that my bike, bought new, did not need a service until 4000 miles, even after a year or more had passed. It's now 15 years old and has done 3450 miles. It's never had a service, although it has had a few fluids and the tyres changed, along with an (almost) annual MOT.

Given that the kawasakis I've looked at say they want an oil change every 6 months then that is a service, all be it a minor one. (Along with other jobs at a time period based intervals).

If its only done 20 miles since its last service then it defiantly doesn't need doing, anyone that says otherwise needs to give their head a shake.

It will get serviced the week after the track day, so it will have a full service history. My local garage has a 3 week lead time, due to the COVID backlog.
