Not quite sure how this happened really but ive ended up buying another bike, talked myself out of it a few weeks ago after having lost my job but man maths justified it on the grounds of (potential) investment and budget creep meant the spend went up a bit more than I anticipated...

From looking at slabside GSXRs a couple of months ago, I ended up looking at early carb'd R1s(how much have they shot up in the last 12 months?).

This particular dealer had an original model R1 in stock but also this early Ducati 996 BiPosto witha historied 2,700 miles on the clock, think it even has the original tyres fitted, a few carbon bits to garnish inc Termis but with all the original bits, including paddock stand, Ducati bike cover , pipes ,handbooks etc all neatly packaged away... so im now a Ducati owner...which I never thought would happen!

Love the early 3 spoke wheels with the gold finish on the 1999 bikes.

Plans are much like the 2 strokes, outings on high sunny days , give it some TLC and enjoy the looks of the thing...should be delivered in a week or so, then new belts/service, tyres and put some miles on it.

PS Had a great time on the new ring road around Norwich on the Mrs CBR600, what a fantastic bit of tarmac that is in places...

...journey was worth it just to see some of the bikes the chap has for sale...2000 Blade is new and never used(now sold), R7 would defintly be on my fantasy garage list...

TZR had only done a few thousand miles..

Envy level 100.
Very nice purchase.

An R7 is also very close to the top of my dream lottery win garage.

I like that dealer's taste!

Congratulations. I've been looking at oldish Ducatis. Must build garage first...

You tart up bikes already don't you? Can you do the belts yourself?

Lovely. And that R7, mate had a fully kitted one back in the day with a bunch of parts that escaped from the paddock.

Lovely thing, always wanted one in the Foggy era but too small for me at 6’ 2”, I can just about cope with a modern sportsbike for a couple of hours but no chance on that. I’d love a dry one on display in our conservatory though biggrin

Thanks for the comments...Yes, having looked at a couple of youtube videos and doing some basic stuff to a 996 SPS a few weeks back, im confident I could do belts myself but because it has so much history to it despite its mileage, would be a shame to let that waver, thats my current thinking anyway...

As for comfort, yes, potentially worse than the KR1 I think , so wont be far !

That is beautiful.
Would be wasted on me as I'd want to ride it until I had to stop to tax it again.

That is some spectacular man maths, I have a lot of time for that sort of logic. Beautiful bike, hopefully some better on the way to enjoy it.

Don't be mislead by the mileage, this is actually a bigger red flag on low mileage bikes.

Left to stand for prolonged periods, the belts adopt a "set" in the belts where the bend of eh cam wheels is permanently taken by the belt, weakening it significantly. Hence why ducati state xxxx miles OR each year.
Also, there's a Fiat belt that is the same and MUCH cheaper.
Finally, definitely purchase the belt tension tool otherwise a catastrophic failure irt belt jumping or snapping due to over/under tightening will lunch the motor

Otherwise, enjoy thumbup

If I owned that business I'd be broke pretty quickly from not being able to sell any of those bikes...... Nice R7 there and I noticed what look like a FZR600D.

Agreed, I was a little blown away when I walked into the shop, for a minute I was working out if there was anyway I could fund the Ducati and the 1998 R1 but even man maths didnt add up…the FZR is a 1000, pre EXUP, IIRC trhat had done around 9,000 miles
