I was cleaning my Shoei GT Air the other day and noted that it’s almost 7 years old now, so probably past due replacement.
It fits well and the drop down visor is handy for touring so I’m tempted just to get the new version.

Anyone had both the 1 and 2?
I’ve never found the venting to be very good but the new one apparently addresses this and a couple of other niggles.

My intercom system is also dying so an obvious choice is the Sena system that fits neatly into the Aid 2, again real reviews would be handy!

Any other helmets worth a look? Schuberth seem to get good reviews but I don’t know anyone that’s had one.

Ideally I’m looking for full face (no flip ups) with a drop down visor and decent vents to fit my usually Arai shaped head.

I bought a GT air 2 in Feb at the London show, that seems like an age ago. Very very happy with it,. I’d nearly bought a 1 a couple of years ago just as they were launching the 2 so waited for the prices to come down, got a bargain at the show. My previous helmet was a Schuberth C3 which I was happy with but I think the GT is a step up in almost every respect.

Edit, one of the bike mags did a review recently (Think it is ride) and were a bit rude about it, I didn’t agree with any of their comments.

The GT Air2 got poor reviews in Bike and MCN if I recall correctly, it let in a lot of water around the visor which for a premium lid is crap, I wouldn't really know what to recommend instead though smile

That must be it. They were calling it an £800 helmet, because they were including the price of the intercom, er no. The leak they talk about round the visor is because they clearly didn’t follow the instructions, or probably read them. I’ve had no leaks. Sorry bit of rant.. If the 1 worked for you the 2 will as well, I think is a reasonable summary.

I recently picked up a Touratech Mod Adv lid in thier sales. It has a flip front and drop down visor. Its made by Schuberth based on the C3Pro/E1 shell but better looking IMO. Its pretty plush inside has SENA comms kit integration options including the 10u for the C3Pro . Its convertable to run without a peak and looks good in that mode. Venting is ok not sure its better than GT Air , more on a par, and the 1st visor detent position is better than the old GT Air as that used to bug the crap out of me with it either being too open or closed.

The massive first visor opening is something I also find extremely annoying, more so since the sun visor steams up in town. Apparently it’s been sorted with the new one.

I’m not really keen on flip up lids though.

Yeah I heard the same reviews and went straight to "they obviously didn't adjust the visor properly". I found it a bit annoying that I had to fiddle about with the visor on a reasonably expensive helmet when I bought my GT-Air , but it was a one-off job and I've not had an issues since.

Confirm the GT Air 2 is a quality bit of kit, had mine about a month and a half now. Bought it Helmet City when they had their 20% off all items when first opened after lockdown, bit of a bargain to be honest.
However I would agree ref the visor, fiddly bit of kit when taking on and off to fit the pinlock but once on no issue and quiet with no leaks (so far).

Recommended.

I have a GT air 1 version, also hated the massive first step opening which they sorted in the mk2 version of the visor hinges....

I bought an Air 2 visor hinge kit and installed it on my Air 1, problem solved !!

Hmmm... that’s interesting! I can get a new gt air 1 for about £300
Was the visor kit expensive?

I'm in a similar quandary – but keep being put off by the fact the GT Air 2 has a clip buckle rather a double-D ring...

That’s a good point actually. The strap is further forward which would be more comfortable but the ratchet thing just seems like a bad idea.

About 18 quid if I recall correctly, quite expensive but cheaper than a new helmet !

The massive gap was doing my head in, literally, needed it cracked open when it was raining in the winter, to prevent steaming up and it was actually letting rain blow in when at speed.!!

Visorshop.com

Shoei baseplate set for gt air 2.......make sure it is the "2" as they sell air 1 sets as well !!!...
