No matter how much I would want a modern Ducati (for the road, not track), I'm not sure I could get past the look of the wings. I get that they're functional, but they just ruin the look of the bikes for me, Italian bikes are supposed to be beautiful, these just aren't IMHO.

This is just so much nicer!

Do they offer any crash/drop protection besides being about aerodynamics?

Top one reminds me of the TL1000S.

I concur.
Fugly and pointless on a road bike.

Yep, not for me...completely daft. At least some of the other manufacturers following this aero trend have incorporate the wings a bit more discretely.

Simple solution for the OP. Buy a modern V4 , V2 or L2 panigale with out the wings.

Probably the opposite as a fall off the stand or a brush against the garage even could be new wings at £100s.

My ducati dealer said that there was about to be a kit whereby you could remove them (and put some small blanks in their place)

I agree they look very very silly indeed.

Had a feeling they'd do this. They look bloody awful.

They're quite visually challenging. I'd imagine the right kind of tip-over would rip the mounts out of the fairings too. I read that they exert sixty kilos of downwards pressure at 300km/h. Which would lean a person slight in stature should be able to stand on those wings..... I wonder if anyone has tested that?

The headlights are a bit on the awful side too, tucked up into those intakes. Makes it look like one of the creatures from Marios Odyssey. Under/over lights like the 999 would look at lot better.......

When the 749/999 came out I remember them looking weird but over time they have matured well, I don't think these road bikes with wings will do especially the naked ones.
People will look back at them like people look back at cars that came with massive wings out of the factory for no reason.

At 60mph they create 4kg of downforce; at 120mph, 16kg; and at 180mph, 37kg
Idiotic on a road bike then.

Is earning your "ducati wings" like getting your 1st Rusty Sheriffs badge ?

Make them a no cost option when ordering? They look a bit to Demon Tweeks.

If you want 4kg of extra force on the front at 120mph, cant you just leave another 4L of fuel in the tank....or lean forward a bit ...seeing as your head weighs about 5Kg ? smile

You just need to go a little faster.

Ducati needs an option on ordering to remove them.

Similar.. Basically you nose dive, whilst sticking your tongue out, with your arms out, but slightly bent at the elbow and wrist.

I like em!
It’s an area that I wish they’d allow unlimited development in moto GP on. On cars, the theory is more obvious that they are a benefit, on bikes, they seem to help in one area and hinder in another.

Obviously we don’t want them being like a scaffold plank on the bank of a Wirral Moped, but bring them on, I say!

The top one is the SL, I doubt many of them will see road use, but hopefully the track. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen blanking plates for the Streetfighter somewhere, they come off easily enough with an Allen key. It’s a look, wings are where superbikes are going this decade, RSV4, Blade etc all have them

They really are the only reason I haven't bought a V4R. Honestly...
