I really love the Yamaha TMAX 2020 and the TMAX 2017, there's something to be said for this new breed of touring friendly maxi-scooters but the reality is the minute you buy a TMAX you know full well it's insurance is going to be sky high and it's going to get nicked by the scumbags.

What would be a good alternative maxi-scoot that is a bit less sought after by the chavs, but would give you the same enjoyment and performance for long rides and be a little cheaper?

There is the Suzuki Burgman 400 and 650 which may less desirable to a thief, or inded the Kymco AK550 which will likely get less attention.

Xmax 300! I was in exactly the same position and now have an Xmax (courtesy of a fellow Pistonheader) It looks like a Tmax (not quite as good granted but to the layman...) will cruise at 90, very frugal on fuel and shouldn't prove to be a magnet for trouble like a Tmax is.....

It strikes me that you'd be better off with an R1, the insurance will be cheaper! rofl

Honda X-ADV? I have just bought one (having had a Burgman 400 and Forza 300 and fancy a bit more welly) but worry it's going to be gone in a trice, the insurance was so high.

I hope times have moved on, but last year (in London at least) they were nearly as hot as TMaxs' to the feral youth

Loved the short time I had with my TMax but commuting into London came with a constant worry about whether it would still be where I left it come home time.

The first years insurance was ridiculous. I'm late 50s, ridden all my life, loads of no claims.

But the second year of insurance was coming and it had doubled from the only company that still seemed to be quoting in London.

Took a while to sell as no one was interested due to insurance costs.

I really dropped the price and it finally sold to a guy who then tried to insure it there and then.

The quotes had his jaw on the floor. He rode off uninsured.

So the bike cost me a fortune to own for a year.

I'd love to have another one. Maybe if I ever leave London, or the UK.

They are uninsurable in London. You'd be better parking a Panigale V4 SL on the steering lock in Soho.

Rather than a scooter, how about about a Honda NC750X DCT, you get the automatic, some weather protection and that Frunk, and I highly doubt they are as popular with the scrotes

Automatic, so anyone can ride it, and can't be stalled. Long travel suspension so you can hammer up kerbs and down stairs. Wide bars and loads of steering lock for nimble manoeuvres. If you were to design a machine for blagging it's perfect!

As the poster above says, get the NC (but not the Integra as that's a barge)

Yeah any decent biggish auto scooter is perfect for Scrotes.

My current Vespa 300 I had before the TMax, yes I know, and was nicked just as I moved back to London.

Got it back in a sorry state almost exactly a year later.

The guy who had it did 3000 miles of robbing on it until he was caught.

He got 150 hours of community service even though his previous was 4 years for armed robbery on a scooter.

Oh and told to pay me £15. Funnily enough I never received a penny.

BMW C650. Had one as a loaner when my GS was being serviced.

Might go for a nc750x though. Drink is helpful and they're cheap

Drink is helpful - ha ha. Am on holiday in Greece. And am drunk now. But never a truer word said in jest.

I wouldn't drink and ride, ever. But if I did, a NC 750 would probably be more helpful to the endeavour than most bikes.
