Most makers seem to have switched over from the hard armour/foam to soft and forcefield are built on it.
So, why does my Dainese attire have rigid armour? And new Dainese apparel mostly uses hard armour (usually only Level 1, even in some mega-expensive clothing)

The soft armour is more comfortable, i.e. it forms to your shape and moves with you. However I don't know if the soft armour is better or worse than the hard stuff. I suspect that not all hard armour is equal and not all soft armour is equal either.
Inevitably true, is also complicated by everything being a compromise of size, weight, etc to be practical enough that someone wants to wear it. The most effective armour would probably look like one of those bear suits, but you'd never be able to ride a bike!
Does hard armour spread an impact over a wider surface area, but hard edges risk wearing through leathers in a slide?
And does it increase the chance of friction burns or is that more about fit?
