Had a little 'play' with a bike on the A272 this afternoon and it started off reasonably sensible (it was mid afternoon after all so I was trying to respect all the 30s and 40s and 50s but then letting rip on the clear sighted unrestricted bits) but then the bloke went past me at a million leptons, inches away from some ramblers in a gateway and then did the next set of blind corners like he was on a track day. I could see him way off up the hill in the distance doing car after car after car.

Scared me tbh. I backed right off expecting to come around the next bend to find carnage.

He was't even leathered up..!! Could clearly 'ride' looking at the way he handled the bike but Jesus!

Either he's a legend of a rider or a statistic waiting to happen.

Or .....

Maybe I'm just getting old ... :-)

Probably felt pretty in control for the bike.

I go 20 to 30 mph faster on a bike everywhere, feeling at 6/10s, on a particular road than I do in a car at 9/10ths.

Not all of us. Personally I'm not a fan of the "300mph everywhere brigade"

That's nothing, you car drivers are even worse. As I drove home from work last week, I got overtaken by a car on a blind bend, forcing a white van to swerve out the way. At least the bike didn't require any evasive action.

Don't get me started on the truck that drove straight onto a roundabout, forcing an emergency stop for the car on the roundabout!

Clearly other statistics waiting to happen!

Some idiot stopped right in front of me the other day in Tesco meaning I had to swerve out of his way.
Very nearly collided with some poor woman's trolley and I can guarantee I would have been the one who came off worst AND got the blame for it!

bd pedestrians...

I wouldn’t class myself as a ‘nutter’ but I do ride a lot quicker on the bike than in my car.

I can plod along in the car but on the bike it’s getting past the car in front or swinging into the next bend.

As I’m mid 60’s I think there’s not a lot of chance of calming down now hehe

I don't mind how people ride (I also ride rather quicker than I drive, cos my Speed Trip sounds nice at high revs), but I don't want to hear any self serving guff about what a good/safe rider they were and how it was someone else's fault when they went into the back of a tractor or something at 70. Riding is all about self preservation, I'd rather ride slower when I'm not feeling it, some bikers are st at this and I have little sympathy if they come unstuck.

Depends, but for me 25yrs in cars generally has me quicker then 4 yrs on a bike.

Mind, I really need some advance training on a bike as corners are not my forte!

I ride at all speeds and am competent at faster speeds on the bike. The vast majority of the time I’m somewhat faster than cars (a light throttle leaves most far behind) and some days I ride like the wind which is very fast on my bike (S1000R).

It’s always funny when car drivers have caught up and said they were trying to keep up and you have absolutely no idea as they are just small objects far away in the mirrors. I wouldn’t race with a car on any public roads anyway as it’s just too dangerous for everyone.

A272 does have some decent stretches but lots more places where you become a stat waiting to happen if riding like a nutter is your thing . Too many potential hazards nono

Not often a car bothers me on a decent bike but the other weeks memory will stick with me for a while, ive had some quick cars, not fast but quick . Big Audi rs 6 estate new shape eggs me on. Holy st!!! Wide open throttle through 3rd/4th and 5th on a 1290r and only just started pulling the thing in before calling it eek
There are some seriously quick 4 wheel machines out there but I have no doubt this was not standard, the thing exploded on acceleration .

Main reason I ride alone (apart from being a misanthrope!) is because I don’t like to feel any pressure to ride other than at my own pace. Don’t feel the same in a car and have really enjoyed trips away with friends.

I try to avoid racing cars or bikes for the same reason. Most recent was one guy tried to egg me on in his car and shot off taking blind bends (with houses/driveways) around those bends. I left him to it

we are soul mates
that is why we will never ride together beerbiggrin

one guy had a car coming fast right behind him and then sticking behind, he thought it was some nutter so click click click pulled away from the car, GSXR1000 is a fast iron, then slowed down, the car came back behind him. A little while later a red sign POLIZEI in the windshield....now the biker is a criminal (Switzerland)..

ooh ... ooh ... can I join misanthope club?

I loathe riding in a group. It's either willy-waving, plodding or stopping every 30 mins admire one-another's equipment. Bleurgh!

Half of the enjoyment of biking (for me) is the enforced solitude that facilitates a meditative state of concentration. The rest is in the pure simplicity of the machine. A visceral connection between me, the engine and the wheels. Everyone else can get fked, frankly.

Seems to be a PH thing. I think if you can find the right group then it’s fine but that can be tricky.

I rode with a group on litre super bikes and they were far too wild for me so I stopped and ride alone most of the time.

I have no problem group riding if you can find a like minded group.

That’s the great thing

Get caught speeding and unless it’s a silly speed it’s only a few quid relatively speaking.

My worst was £600 and 6 points which was a long time ago.

I’ve got a clean licence so there’s really no big penalty to getting caught. Even your insurance doesn’t increase very much if anything at all.
