They only made them for one year so probably wasn’t the best .

As I noted above, the original mobile hand grenade. Unusually, Honda got this one badly wrong. They tried to sort vibrations with a weighted middle piston and con rod. The result was "explosive". They issued replacement cranks and pistons without the weighting. Whether that sorted the issue or not I do not know. The bike was restricted to Japan and Oz thankfully. Stunning looking bike, but one to avoid if only on the grounds of almost complete lack of parts. The subsequent NS250R V twin was a much better bike, a TT winner.

Thanks NS400R, for the info

I keep looking at these to scratch the two stroke itch without going down the RDLC route,

From my research I note some have a 10.5k redline whilst others had a 9k so guess this was lowered on later bikes with other improvements,

No-one wants a mobile hand-grenade so best get back to my paragon of reliability that is the Benelli 900 Tornado Tri banghead

If I was buying a stroker now, Rd350ypvs would be the one. Sensible money, good parts availability and great performance. All the others have gone mental price wise and/or suffer parts issues.

And that comes from a Honda owner that supplies reproduction spares for the NS400.... As much as I love and support them, they Ain't with the money. And don't get me started on the ccr@p handling RD500 or the fragile RG...

I had a look at the Wiki page for these, those rods and pistons don't look like Hondas finest work yikes

Regarding the RG500 being a bit fragile, an engine builder once told me that anyone can assembe an RG500 engine but very few can actually build one.

Padgetts RG500 was the only two stroke to actually win a race in F1 and then only the once.
