Hey,

I'm after a throttle lock for my KTM 790 Duke and there are so many online. I could not find a discussion on here about throttle locks and well i thought why not see what people are using. I quite like the look of the Kaoko (https://kaoko.com/) throttle lock as it integrates into the bar end compared to the others which wrap around the grip. The only thing that worries me would be vibration due to weight difference?

This is another one which somebody suggested, but i think it is on the large side.
https://www.atlasthrottlelock.com/

Any advice on either of these or something better would be appreciated.

Thanks
J

Throttle lock for cruise control??

As you say, the Kaoko is a well proven device.

As to who uses them, is there much opportunity to use CC in the UK?? Some countries such as the US, Australia or South Africa where the Kaoko comes from, there's opportunity to sit for prolonged periods on fairly empty roads making it a viable item.

But, for genral UK or European riding, you might find it's a solution to a problem that possibly doesn't exist.

Thanks for you input Steve, my main use is for long journeys when on tour. So last year the main leg we did was from Calais to Strasbourg on the motorways which are always a pain, but the sooner you get to the nice twisty roads is worth it in the end. So having cruise control would be helpful. I went from an MT-10 to the 790 and i honestly thought most modern bikes have cruise control now. I know the 790 adventure has cruise control and expected the 790 duke to be the same. The other reason also being I've had Scapholunate Ligament reconstruction surgery in my right wrist and so having some rest for the wrist is helpful.

Ok, understand now.
So, I know a lot of people rate the Kaoko device. It's been around forever and still sells which must mean something.
Can't comment on the other Atlas thingy though.
As an alternative, have a look for a thing called a Throttle Jack. Basically a moulded plastic spoon that attaches to the throttle and sits underneath your palm at the fleshy heel under the little and ring fingers.
It allows you to maintain a pressure on the throttle without having to grip it so might be of interest.
But personally, I'd try the Kaoko, seems to cover all your bases.
Good luck

Ed.

I have an Omni Cruise, I bought it for a ride through Spain and France. Worked well to give my hand a break from a vibey v twin. I didn't try any other throttle locks but found the Omni easy to release which was my main concern.

I have a cheap Chinese one, sits between the hand grip and the brake mount, and locks down on the handle bar, has a little tab that goes under the brake mount.so it doesn't rotate with the throttle, around 8 pound, looks good in black plastic and works great, had same one on my previous bike, was advertised for a Yamaha, and I need to fettle it a little to fit my Kawasaki.
I wouldn't spend big money one as I just don't use it enough,

Few years back I was traveling down highway 101 in California on a hired Kawasaki voyager fitted with cruise control which stuck on when I tried to disengage it, had to flick the ignition on and off at 70plus it didn't use it again after that.

Had a Kaoko one on a secondhand GS1200. It was OK if you just wanted to free your right hand up for a few seconds. Other than that it was rubbish. It only holds the throttle in 1 place so if there is a hill or slight gradient you slow down (unless you are going downhill then you speed up). I used the bike all year but in winter I found that over a few weeks the bulkier winter gloves would wind the device on when you were not expecting it. You can always overpower the device with your hand luckily.

Pass...A few years back a few of bought something similar on a south of france trip, we ended up binning them at the first services, we all found they got in the way of the controls a bit to much .

Anything mechanical wont hold the same speed up hill and down dale anyway...you'll set it on the flat and at the face of a decent hill , the revs will drop and the bike will slow..

I'd seen a few guys with these on their GS's. No idea how good they might be.
Apparently they're st rofl
But as said above, and throttle lock won't be able to adjust for inclines etc. So a very limited solution overall.
