Swapped my S1KR for a new 20 S1KXR, our European trips were getting hard work with the others all on GS's so I've finally given in, but not quite. It's taken a few miles to get used to it but loving it now 👍

Lovely looking thing that. Did you try any of the other similar type of bike before it? e.g. Superduke GT?

No, I swapped from an S1KR, so sort of knew what I wanted. The same thing with a bit more touring ability, but didn't fancy going the full GS route. I can't stand that boxer engine.

Reckon they’ve got the styling down to a tee with this new one! Bloody lovely biggrin

Cheers, it was actually last Friday so I've been making the most of it since then. Even had Mrs Shunt out on it, 1st time in 10 years she's even considered it. It's considerably easier to ride without her though and no she's not a big unit. Loving it so far, I'm trying to get as many miles on it to get it's first service done soon and unlock Dynamic Pro......

cool. And you'll change your mind about the GS 1250 engine biggrin

I'm a diehard superbike fan but even I have to admit that the GS is properly good at what it does. Visually I would prefer the KTM1190 because of it's dynamics but they're getting old and I'm not a fan of the newer 1290 visage.
And with a cost price of 14k GBP new, a 5 yr warranty and a dealer not far away, it kinda made sense...

And I might be putting a 2020 RSV4 1100 Facory in the garage to keep it company hehe

Saw your new bike outside Williams last Friday while my XR was in for new tyres - looks great in red! I tried their grey demo bike when it first came in back in June & it felt like a slightly more grown-up version of the previous model. I’m not quite ready to swap mine yet, but I think one of these will be close to the top of the list next spring.

Enjoy!

Have they improved the comfort of the XR? I always found the XR seat wedged you in with little room for movement, and valuable over long distance. ABR did a long term review of the new XR this month and said similar.

The seat is better than I first thought it would be. It does cup you a little but seems better if you shuffle backwards a bit. It still feels a bit hard and I'm hoping it will bed in over a few miles.

Looks damned lovely!

I sold my 2016 XR late last year back to the dealer. I only ever had 1 complaint with that bike and i see they've fixed it. They've binned that stupid rubbery plastic bit at the bottom of the fuel tank at the front of the seat. That was the only bit of my bike that didn't look showroom fresh when I sold it.

Wish you many happy miles!

I swapped to an XR TE a couple of weeks ago, still in the running in period and loving its easy agility . As an FYI Dynamic Pro is available from new, as its just turned on/off in the dash settings menu, which you can do without a dealer . Though there is a 9K RPM limit in force until run-in service done so your not going to see the full Dynamic Pro capability until then.

Good info, thanks. I thought it would need the red plug fitting like my old R. I'll have a look through the settings later. Just ridden it home from work, I'm amazed at how much attention it gets.

Just wish BMW would make a S1000RS. The whole adventure bike style doesn't appeal, especially on a multii, put a RS fairing on my S1KR and BMW would have my money again.

Graham, I used to be you. My 3 off S1KR's served me very well but on a 400 mile a day tour of the Alps theyre hard work. This XR doesnt even seem a half way house, go test one out. I'd held strong for years against the mighty GS. The XR 2020 has even made my tightest mate take the plunge too.

Sorely tempted by one of these or a Super Duke GT.

I don’t suppose someone has had both?

Super Duke is nice but it's going back down the S1KR touring route issues. I've ordered some bmw panniers. Shame our bikeshuttle transfer to Geneva was cancelled due to fking covid joke.
