SHOCKER: Girlfriend rides pillion!

My girlfriend has ALWAYS been adamant that she will never get on the back of my bike - she's a nurse and has to pick up the pieces. Then today, she got on to go 200yards to get some photos. I then suggested we travel the 2 miles to the garage as I needed fuel, and then we went for a spot of lunch a little further on. As much as she hated to admit it, she enjoyed it! She said she felt very vulnerable surrounded by all the cars and with no protection (aside from proper clothing of course) and she didn't like the low speed stuff, but overall she liked it!
Now that she's tried it I won't push to her to go on again - she's given it a go and if she decides it's not for her then that's fine, but at least she's given it a try. She was a good pillion too, surprisingly!

I never thought Charlene would, but it was really nice to share it with her. Now she has an idea of what i'm on about! She was shocked how much more visibility you have on a bike. I didn't go it any welly as I didnt want to scare her, but she informs me we nudged 90mph as we overtook on of the cars. I didn't think we went that fast, but she wasn't bothered by it as I slowed back to a reasonable speed once in front of the car.
I think she's currently battling with her heart and head over the experience really - on the one hand she enjoyed it, on the other she knows how vulnerable you are, and that she promised her folks she wouldn't get on the back!

Very sorry to hear this. "One seat only, luv" nicely sums up my approach to pillion passengers. They make things worse. Never seen the point.
I quite like taking pillions. I tend to avoid doing it too often as I like to travel rather faster, and corner harder, than is sensible with a pillion. It's nice on occasion to just slow the pace down a bit and cruise along in the sunshine, without a care in the world (aside from numpty avoidance, obviously)

Next time see if you can get her out on an early morning spin down some deserted country lanes. The cool fresh air and all the smells make it an awesome experience, especially at this time of year.
One of my long lost ex gf's had no problems aboard my old GPz500s and positively loved climbing off the pillion seat on long corners to see if she could get her knee down.
We'd often get to the end of a long hoon and the first thing she used to was jump off and examine the front wheel to see if we'd managed to get over the edge of the tyre.
We did 1000's of miles touring round the Lake District, Yorkshire and Scotland with just a tent and a big sleeping bag.
ahhh.... fond memories. Wonder where she is now?

Im not goign to lend you my bike then. I get this experience all the time.

Cool! Id love to do a bike adventure. Me and a few of the lads are on about a road trip to Amsterdam next summer, but we all have sportsbikes, so it might not be the most comfortable of journeys! LOL
As for not carrying anything back from the shops - tankbag, rucksack and (if you have the bungee points, which I dont) tailpack!
With my Oxford panniers - In "Classy" Ninja green to match the bike (they were reduced alright!!) I can carry about as much stuff on my bike as I can in the Mx5!
They don't slow you down too much either... I've even got my knee and peg down with the panniers on!

I can relate to you there Andy - last year I had an MR2 T bar as my only transport, and the boot at the back was tiny, and the front boot had the spare tyre in it. Having MX5-sized luggage space would have been a luxury! It was fantastic for shopping with the girlfriend though - as once she's bought 3 pairs of shoes and one 'strappy top' the boot was full, so we had to go home
