Latest go to phone holder/mount ?
Discussion
Probably done to death already but what’s the latest go to for phone holders ? I need a bar mount holder and hear stories of the quadlock ones ruining phone cameras due to vibrations etc. Is this still the case ? I use Waze on my phone for Nav and ‘other’ alerts so need a nice decent holder now
Thanks

Thanks

It's not just quadlocks, it's any bar mounted phone mount with certain bikes, and certain phones with automatic image stabilisation on their cameras.
I use a quad lock, with the new anti vibration mount, and a samsung s10+ and it's great.
Bikes prone to it, according to quadlock-
"The motorcycles listed have been known to cause vibration damage to the optical image stabilisation of smartphones when mounted, however, even if your bike is not listed, Quad Lock recommends the use of our Vibration Dampener for complete confidence.
BMW 310GS, F800 R/GS/GT, R nine T, R1200GS/RT, S1000R
Ducati Hypermotard, Monster, Multistrada, Supersport
Harley Davidson Fat Bob, Low Rider S, Street Bob, Wide Glide
Honda CB, CBR, CRF, Grom, Shadow
Kawasaki Er-6n, KLX, Ninja, Versys, Z650, Z900RS
KTM & Husqvarna All Models
MV Agusta Brutale
Suzuki DRZ, GSF, GSX-R, GSX-S
Triumph Bonneville, Rocket 3, Scrambler, Speed Triple, Speed Twin, Thruxton
Yamaha MT, FZ, Tracer, XJ600, XSR 700/900, R6, YZF-R1"

Both SP Connect and Quad Lock now have anti-vibration mounts. It is a damper which sits between the handlebar mount and the phone case. Quad Lock only released theirs about 2 weeks ago, so their availability may be a bit limited. You must get the anti-vibe module in addition to the phone specific case. If you just buy the case, the vibes can still kill your phone.
I went a different route and bought both a cheap rugged smartphone for bike use and a motorcycle GPS, which is hardwired and ruggedised/waterproof.

Really?
I use an ultimate addons case with an S20 plus, no issues.
Yet there are plenty of people on a similar thread on advrider with phones which have been on the bars and are now cactus. I posted a similar thread to OP here on PH about a month ago and I had responses from people with busted phones. Just because it has not happened to your phone, does not mean it is not a problem.

Thanks all< I will buy direct from quadlock in a month or so and make sure it has the vibration damper. TBH the amount of time my phone would be in the mount is so minimal I dont think I will have an issue.

I've got the best gold plated phone mount in the world for sale.
Yours for £10k
Ah now I would have snapped your arm off for it had you offered it to me on Tuesday, sadly the money was spent by Wednesday Yours for £10k

I'd rather put the cash towards an intercom (I have a Sena SMH5). Then you can use waze but listen to the instructions without the distraction of needing to look at the screen. Plus phone can be stored away in a pocket or luggage. Personal opinion of course but I find waze or Google maps and a Sena headset a great combo, works flawlessly.
I bought this as I have a iPhone with wireless charging and I don’t like cables dangling around. It has a backup rubber band affair to hold the phone but the screw lock seems fine. It obviously isn’t waterproof

Have you found a way to get Waze to give you an audible speed camera warning if you are travelling below the speed limit? I haven't figured it out. The problem with bikes unlike cars is that you can easily double your speed in a couple of seconds. This makes for a tricky situation if you have not had an audible camera warning.I have phone and GPS routed through an intercom in my setup.

Looks quite useful. I also hate wires. It looks like it will still allow vibrations through which kill the optical image stabilisation on some phones though. When I was researching, I read that SP or Quad Lock were working on a wireless charging mount too. https://www.motolegends.com/accessories/interphone...

I don't believe it's possible unfortunately. The range of alerting isn't great either - fine for a fixed camera, not so fine for police/mobile. When I was doing intergalactic mileage on the bike I just kept an eye on the map instead.Iminquarantine said:

I always wondered why sometimes it would give you the warning and sometimes not, TILGassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
