What's the origin and purpose of fox tails and other furry stuff on scooter aerials?

Decorative, fashionable, a sign that you're an individual yet part of a crowd...or it stops the covid.

IIRC Esso had an advertising campaign and the slogan was "put a tiger in your tank" As part of the campaign they gave away tiger tails which at the time ended up getting tied all sorts of things, mirrors, car aerials, bumpers and of course scooters.

Later found out that that they ward off all kinds of demons including Corvid. Who would have guessed

I thought it was the sort of thing that the fat, greasy type of bike woman (she has a perm and her hair is that sort of very dark purple colour) would have hanging from her cutoff denim jacket, while hanging around with some bald bloke with a goatee beard on a ratty 250 Superdream painted matte black (with purple bits) with a stick. He has a wallet on a chain.

There are no Superdreams left, so now they have a godawful trike.

(My stereotyping is very specific).

Its true, and if it's not a trike its a badly streetfightered bandit 600 that is 'scarily fast' according to my neighbour who has one
