Antwerp central motorcycle parking

Work trip to Antwerp. It's on expenses but I'm going to push the budget on the hotel so I'd like to avoid attracting attention with a big parking bill on top.

Planning to stay right in the centre around Grote Markt. There are plenty of pay carparks, but anyone know if they have motorcycle places for less than the car price?

When I went to Antwerp I found a spare bit of pavement and parked the bike there, same as other cities in Belgoim and the Netherlands. There is a different attitude to bikes over there.

I think last time I biked to Belgium I stayed on the outskirts of town in a hotel with a carpark and walked in or biked in for the day, I can't remember what.

If I leave the bike parked on the street overnight in the old town in Antwerp, will it be safe and will I get a parking ticket?

IN Feb when i was there in the car, they had a low emmission zone that you had to ge tyour vehicle registered for to allow you into the centre, (pretty much anywhere inside the Antwerp ring). For a car you need to do it online and send you reg document in, via a scanning system. Dont know if it includes bikes but i presume it does.
Same for other areas in Belgium and some in NL too. Pain in the arse.

Edit, actually looks like it does not apply to motorbikes as the cameras cannot pick them up! Maybe check with someone local to confirm but that is what it looks like from the net!


BTW, you know that all bars and restaurants in Belgium shut today for 4 weeks due to Covid restrictions...? Take a top box full of pot noodles!

Thanks for the reminder about the ultra Lez, I forgot about that even though I registered the car on the last chocolate buying trip.

I wonder if Leonidas will still be open? I talked to my Belgian colleague, who was still alive at lunchtime when I called. She said takeaways are still open. Maybe I’ll just eat hot chips the whole trip . The heat should neutralise everything.
