The embarrassment of ....

... Crashing a bike that looks like its been stolen off a child.
Thought I would round 2020 off in the best way possible this afternoon and crash my little 125cc Benelli.
100% my own fault too.
Came off the roundabout which is about half a mile from my house, chucked it in to the failry tight left straight after the roundabout and totally forgot how s**t the ground clearance is on that side of the bike, dug the side stand in to the road, lifted the rear wheel clean off the deck and performed a lovely lowside slide at about 40mph.
Ground the knuckles out of my brand new winter gloves as well which was an annoyance.
Must say though for a Chinese Italian bike it crashed very well. Havent had a thorough look over the bike yet. But other than a snapped gear lever, bent gear shift pedal, crack in the tank plastics where the bars hit it, and a few scrapes, it faired surprisingly well.

Just before lockdown we had those really strong winds (in the SE at least) and I was riding home from London on a very gusty evening. I ride a BMW GS1200 and I'm kinda on tippy toes with it as it's a tall bike (can you see where this is going??) but usually pretty solid. Anyway, came off the M20 for the M25, filtered the traffic to the head of the queue at the traffic lights and sat in front of the front row of cars waiting for the lights to change. Stationary at this point. Huge gust of wind from the right and I toppled completely over, blown over by it, bike on its side and I literally rolled away.
Lights change and no one can move as my bike and I are all over the road. Anyway, two kindly chaps helped me lift the bike, I remounted and rode the remaining 13 miles home on the M25. Very embarrassing as I wasn't even moving, made look like a right numpty!! Didn't end there though.
That night my left elbow started really hurting and by the next day it was very painful so I took myself off to A&E and it turns out I had fractured the radial head (the round bit) bone in my elbow. Took three months before I could really use my arm properly and I still can't and probably never will be able to completely straighten it. When I asked about this at the hospital they said "do you need to straighten it, for sports or anything" and when I said, no not really they just shrugged!
So, the motto of the story is don't ride a tall bike with boxes on it in a strong gusty wind!
