Thanks for posting Bob!
I always loved mine and just sold it last week for an RR. I was hoping it would get more power (not that it needed it though!) just to keep it inline with the competition.
I like the new frame and looks!
Quoted BHP is good for pissing contests/bragging rights but not sure how relevant it is for road use. Saw a YouTube clip posted on a forum recently . Some Italians comparing top supernakeds on the drag strip. After multiple head to heads the winner was the Tuono, even though it was the second least powerful (top from memory was the Streetfighter with more than 200 bhp). How the bike makes power and transferring that to the road via the transmission seemed to be the key. I always loved mine and just sold it last week for an RR. I also owned an S1000R. There were some things it lacked (eg mirrors that worked about 40 mph) but it never felt short of power.
Pretty sure it was in a David Vizard article I read decades ago that said something like "Area under the torque curve provides acceleration, BHP provides top speed" and ever since I've looked at the torque figure. Remember BHP is derived from torque at a rev point so if the engine makes the torque lower down the rev range the BHP will be lower than one generating it higher up the range.
If you're not lazy like me look at the HP figure and enjoy working the engine through the box and keep bouncing off the redline.

Torque/bhp maps needed 100%. And the reviews.
It’s a super naked, not super sports, one hopes it has a big torque curve. You don’t need much more than 120mph on a naked before it becomes uncomfortable.
Not clear if it has the shiftcam technology.

I'd been waiting for this. Was hoping for most of the looks of the RR just without most of the fairings. This is a disappointment as it just looks bland. I actually prefer the looks of the current model, it's no beauty for sure but it's orginal and distinctive. This new model just isn't and I don't see any overwhelming USP that could overcome that. Shame...

I couldnt agree more! I saw that same video. A friend I ride with has a '15 reg S1000R and see the new one said he will definitely get one. The current engine is already very good, they've made the whole bike lighter, improved the electronics and modernised it. I'm not into beemers but it'll be a definite improvementI also owned an S1000R. There were some things it lacked (eg mirrors that worked about 40 mph) but it never felt short of power.
Regarding the power to the ground again concur. I ride a Tuono (just has the Akra and map). A friend has the Streetfigher S, full Ti Akra, lightweight wheels etc. Owes him silly money. Mine punches harder off the lights and I can consistently without trying too hard get through the first 3-4 gears quicker up the road when we are being t
ts on traffic light gp etc. Only above 120ish do you see his really start showing its true power vs mine and tbh as a naked bike its not a speed you want to sit at for a long timeI've said this already, but this redesign of the S1000R is like a Chris Waddle penalty.
As a current S1000R owner I am glad they have made such a bad job of it as it will save me some money (especially after what I have spent on this one recently!) And speaking of money. To get a bike spec'd somewhere near what the current model is, will cost 18k plus.
GTFO BMW.
Mr Aprillia, I will give you a ring in a year or 2.
I do have a gut feeling that they may do an M version as per the RR though, with the full fat RR motor and a price tag to match?

FINALLY, someone gets it
In short, yes, yes and thrice yes!!!

Derail, sorry, but £16,000 for a decent spec?
I know things cost more than they used to, I know you get a lot of tech for your money and the economies of scale are at work here...
But, sixteen-f
king-grand?
At this rate I'm going to be priced back into performance cars!
Seems like a big jump. When I bought one back in 2015 I think the Sport model (which had all the necessary options) was about £12.5k (I paid about £10.5k for an ex-demo bike).I know things cost more than they used to, I know you get a lot of tech for your money and the economies of scale are at work here...

On paper a Tuono is a £17k bike but not hard to buy for £13k (or more but with Akrapovic can - which is essential as stock version like a dustbin but uglier).

BMW tend to be pretty honest about their power claims, my S1000R made only a few BHP less on the dyno ( and a few more than my first Hayabusa) than a Tuono BUT im also disappointed the new model hasnt had a power hike and its a lot more expensive.
I paid £11,500 for my Sport in 2018 , some people are not paying much more for one now.
I think ill keep to the current model when the time comes to change or maybe the MT10 will be refreshed by then.

You might be in for a similar shock there - the Golf 8 GTI now starts at £33,460. I'm sure it typically goes for £35,000 with the required options ticked. I know things cost more than they used to, I know you get a lot of tech for your money and the economies of scale are at work here...
