Hi all, this is all new to me (forums) so please dont get upset if I get it wrong, I'm looking for some clarity on my imported m/c ( from America) with regards to registering . It is a standard Yamaha xv500 ,no modifications ,all original, 38 years old,(1982) I've looked on the internet for help ,but just get more confused, some say all I would have to do would be to fill in v55 form, others say I will need a certificate of conformity (COC), get it tested at a special MOT place, loads of other stuff, the list is almost endless , I have NOVA and reciept of ownership, all from a reputable dealer, someone please tell me what to do before I pull the little bit of hair I've got left

Get it Motd.

You dont need a certificate of conformity.

Get a dating certificate to prove the bikes age. Usually from an owners club or v.j.m.c . I registered a Honda from Japan by sending Honda UK £30 for a dating cert.
Then you need to insure the bike (you can usually get it insured on the chassis number only .)Take it for an mot , fill in the v55 form ,and send a cheque for the licensing fee and a years road tax .
There is a lot of the v55 that you do not need to fill in when the bike is over 10 years old.

If you have the registration document from the USA, that's your proof of age.

MOT, fill out some of the V55/5 (see below) and send it all off with a cheque for 6 months tax.

This helped me massively when I last registered an import.

Many thanks to all replies, they have helped me enormously, I thought it should be straight forward, but as I said in my first post just looking on the internet was a nightmare, my stress level and blood pressure are near normal now. Do I have a time limit for applying because the bike is nowhere near done? Sorry for not replying sooner ,but forum rules said I couldn't post for 24hours due to spam etc, not sure what that means! Thanks again and good luck with all your endeavours

Most of the specialist clubs will be able to help with registration. I’m going through the same myself with a bike I imported from Italy an this is the guidance provided by the British 2-stroke club.
