Guys,

Having busted some ribs and doing my cruciate ligament falling off my KTM enduro (off road) last year - I now find it REALLY uncomfortable riding sports bikes.

Consequentley I want to replace my Aprilia RSVR Factory with something a little more comfortable!

I just want something fun, thats reasonably pokey, and comfortable to ride - something I can leave in the garage and just jump on and go when I'm in the mood (without having to suit up like a quasi Power Ranger)

Initially I decided I wanted to get either a cruiser or a naked bike and my original short list looked like this:

BMW K1200R (The new naked one with the 163 bhp engine)
Harley Street Rod (V-Rod with gorund clearance)
Victory Hammer (Big V-Twin with 250 section rear tyre)
Triumph Rocket III
Yamaha MT01

I've been warned off the Yammy and the Victory for quality and residual value reasons - and I'm not sure about the Harley because I still think there will be ground clearance issues and it looks a bit unbalanced visually.

So that leaves the K1200R and the Triumph Rocket III - both very different bikes with a different intent - I like the look of both and both feel comfortable - just torn between the two!

I think the BMW will be more "fun" on the open road and be a better long term bet - but the Rocket has plenty of grunt and has more presence.

What do you guys think?

Try the Rocket III forum for more experinance and info. Damn sight more exciting than the BMW. And is very comfortable and easy to ride. Very light cluch lever when compared to BMW ones.

Oh I just happen to have one for sale in the classifieds.

Unitl I bought my R1200GS, I'd have said go BMW for reliability etc.

Now I suspect that I'd go the Rocket option, except for the fact that a BMW should be usable all year round whereas I'm not sure that a Rocket would be.

Try them both out and see which you prefer.

My issue is with BMW's crap customer care policy to bikes that go wrong. The bikes themselves are terrific - until something goes wrong, when the words p*ss up and brewery spring to mind.

No real experience of Triumph -yet!

imagine: heading north toward bilbao. fast but tight sweeping motorway.

Me, trying to knee down at 120mph round tight bend. I hear a growl, a glance up, and what do I see?

A rocket overtaking up the inside with a passenger. Must have been doing 140mph.

Did 3000 miles round pyrannes in May with triumph; several rockets. Always keeping up, no matter how long a distance or pace or hairpinned the route.

I'm pondering over a K1200R myself - have a read up on all that high tech anti-dive suspension stuff, and it comes with tons of equipment like abs and adjustable suspension settings at the flick of a switch.

It wont be short on power, and looks awesome !
