MCE Insurance - Too Cheap ?
Discussion
Check the small print on what is covered as always. Some insurers charge extra for things like; pillion cover, helmets/leathers, modifications, lock/security requirements, personal injury, legal cover, commuting, etc
In recent years I had been with one insurer for many years, all mods declared and they also insured the bike including estimate value of mods. So if you had £3k carbon wheels on there, they were covered for theft too.
Changed insurer, came up at 60% of the price, all mods declared, but in the small print "max payout market value of standard bike" regardless of mods.

What is your excess? In recent years I had been with one insurer for many years, all mods declared and they also insured the bike including estimate value of mods. So if you had £3k carbon wheels on there, they were covered for theft too.

I used MCE despite people saying they were crap. I had to claim and they were crap. I even ended up with a CCJ due to their incompetence but fortunately got it set aside.
Never again.
Not that I am on a mission to defend MCE or anything but have you claimed with another insurer?Never again.
I think they are all crap and you may as well pay the minimum upfront.

Good point but it's the only way I could insure my cars / bikes as they are all modified, otherwise the premiums were ridiculous.I've never had one stolen in 20+ years so even when it happens I'll still be better off.
I fortunately have never had to claim from them but as soon as my year was up i changed company.
It is next to impossible to get through to them when you need to, i cant imagine how much more angry i'd be if i was involved in a claim and was subject to their length call times/terrible hold music.
by the looks of their reviews, i got off lightly

I’ve used most of the major brokers over the years, usually going for the cheapest that met my requirements.
I’ve only claimed once and that went pretty smoothly. Although it was a pretty open and shut claim so maybe you can’t read much into that.
My thoughts are I’m not buying insurance with the intention of claiming. It’s just for my peace of mind and because the law says I have to. If I have to claim I’ll worry about that when it happens.
You may think ‘that’s short sighted’ but I’ve been riding nearly 50 years with one claim so I think I’m ahead.
So I go for the relative cheapest. I could buy insurance at double the price but what guarantee do you have that they are any better? There are thousands of claims every year but you only hear about the ones that haven’t gone well.

awful customer services- they are also on my do not use list.Never again.
If my insurance cost a billion quid then I might consider them. I’m at that age now where nothing I own costs more than £216 fully comp. gives that little bit of leeway where you can actually pay that little bit more for a better insurer. I’d not use MCE a bless I was really desperate - like these people I see paying £150 a month.
I've used MCE in the past and contacting customer service was always been a pain. Even resolving simple issues was hard work. My brother who is a new rider last year signed up with MCE because they were the cheapest and he's now regretting it after making a claim over 2 months ago. He's had very little contact and been told they haven't even priced up the cost of the damage. For an accident that wasn't his fault, it's a very poor show!
I swapped to Bennetts last year and just renewed as it was only a few quid more expensive. The customer service is nicer to speak with and I can save a few quid with their reward program. It seems he'll be swerving MCE when he finally gets his bike back too.
