Recommendations for next bike (middleweight)
Discussion
Current bike: 2018 Street Triple R - bought as something that would be fun to commute on (London), but also fun at the weekend.
Now that I'm no longer commuting, and probably won't be for the mid-long term I would like something else - the Street Triple is great, very capable and 'fast enough' - but no sense of occasion and does not feel special.
I have owned sportsbikes in the past (Daytona 675 / R6) and got much more of a thrill from them, but I've got used to the creature comforts of a modern Street Triple.
So, looking for something fun, sense of occasion, quick and sporty....but probably not a litre bike? Have ridden modern Fireblades which I think are probably too fast to enjoy on the road.
Don't have a defined budget, but I guess somewhere around the 10k mark.
Thanks!
On my list so far...
- Another Daytona 675R
- 959 Panigale
- GSXR-750
- Street Triple 765 RS

I've only had the GSXR-750, 2013.
Very sporty, fantastic front end, quite useable, not intimidating. Still very fast.
I would say though that it's very cramped even at average height/build (it is the same frame as the 600cc) and it's an effort to ride at lower speeds. I also don't think it had the sense of occasion that you're looking for. I think you may enjoy it when riding at 9/10ths and onwards but hate it everywhere else, which I'm not sure is what you're after.
I'd go for something else based on your criteria personally.

Do itI have a 2013 675r but have also owned a latest generation GSXR 750.
Personally I think the 675r feels like a much more special bike, the 750 is quick and capable, but just didnt excite as much as the 675r
I have never ridden the 959, but bought a V2 earlier in the summer.
Its a great bike based on the 959, but if someone took it off me and told me I had to live with the 675r I wouldnt be crying myself to sleep at night.
As always, swing your leg over as many bikes as you can if possible test ride them... and then buy whatever puts the biggest smile on your face!

Out of the list above I’ve had
Daytona 675r
Street triple rs
899 Panigale
MT10
I wouldn’t say the mt10 has any occasion or specialness about it, to be honest I don’t think any naked bikes feel special or truly excite me, the street rs was a cracking bike but again wasn’t exciting.
To date my most memorable bike was my Daytona, closely followed by a 60th R1 but that went as it was too fast with my lack of self control!
I love my MT10 but I’m in a position where I don’t need practical and that’s why I keep looking at the MV F3 RC like I posted above, it’s close to the Daytona but with a little Italian flare

Grey area... because its less than a litre and a v-twin I think it has snuck in the middleweight category (or as the Ducati marketing heads have called a super - mid category...)
The V2 is supposedly going to be included in WorldSSP next year if they change the rules.

It makes a claimed 155hp at the crank but with the euro5 exhaust requirements it probably makes the same power as the latest generation GSXR750 at the rear wheel.

I personally can't get over the looks of the exhaust but otherwise I think it would tick a lot of your boxes.

The Akra loses 1 bhp on the 790. I don't know what it does for the 890R.

Not watched the clip but... Surely no dyno on Earth claims to be accurate to 1bhp? Are they even accurate to 10bhp?
At best you can surely only conclude there's no significant difference?
I’d like to think if it was done back to back with different pipes it would be accurate to within 1hp, I think the real question is would the average rider notice 1hp or even 10hp difference when riding? At best you can surely only conclude there's no significant difference?

I'd probably look at an MT-10, not really special but does have a sense of occasion, you may get a SP for 10k. Of the bikes you listed be the Ducati for me..
