Anyone heard of Levis bikes?
Discussion
A mate of mine called me yesterday and happened to mention he had bought a Levis 350 like his Dad had in 1947.
It was from an auction where quite a few "duplicates" from the National Motorcycle Museum were being sold so it's "dry". He's just negotiating with the Mrs about putting it in the lounge! She wasn't too happy about the Austin J40 pedal car a few years ago.
Anyway this is what a 1930s Levis looks like.

Which got me thinking, does anyone know of a 50cc Zundapp like my Dad bought new in 1965 from Pride & Clark and sometimes picked me up from primary school on it? Sammy Miller has one in his museum, but it's a 100cc model

Yup, relatively well known name in classic bikes. That one would have been Lot 142 - I still have the catalogue
Looks a really nice example.
Everyone has a different opinion I know, but for me, if someone wants something to look at in the lounge then get a painting or a big-screen TV. Motorcycles are meant to motorcycle. Although stored dry I gather all the museum restorations were built to a running condition. For my money I'd be doing the recommissioning and riding it. If it's in memory of his dad's bike then I doubt his dad kept his in the lounge; he would have ridden it, and there's there's the connection.
Very nice bike though - just get him to recommission it and get riding it

Well my mate was a motor trader for years, but also used to buy container loads of bikes like Fireblades from the States in the 80s/90s although he has pretty much retired now and just does it for a hobby.
I'm not sure he has decided what to do with the Levis yet, but he has quite a few other bikes that he does use on the road like a 1960s Triumph 650 twin (Thunderbolt I think) and a recently bought Triumph Speed Triple. He also goes off-roading on a Yamaha Xero.
As a 2-stroke fan I'd love to have his Yamaha YR5 or one of his Suzuki T500s, but I've got nowhere to keep one where it wouldn't be exposed to the elements.
And in a random twist of fate after my Mum passed away in November at 98 I made contact with my late Dad's godson who has 14 bikes - one is a 1977 Silver Jubilee Bonneville that he has owned from new! He rebuilt the engine from my KTM Comet Cross in 1975 after I blew it up.
So I'm hoping to be able to go and see his collection once we have a bit more normality, because where we are now makes me realise there are things that have to be done whenever the opportunity arises.
