Anyone got the current copy of ride handy and can tell me which boots won the sports boot tests please?

My sidis are wafer thin on the sole after 6 or so years of sterling service and it is with some regret than I'm going to have to chuck them :(

Thanks,

Mark

Top five in order:

Hein Gericke Supersport Gore-Tex 129.99 38/50
Triumph Expedition 150.00 35/50
Alpinestars Supertech 229.95 33/50
Sidi Vertebra Race Carbon 225.00 33/50
Hein Gericke Superbike 99.99 32/50

The HG boots are fairly low and not really suitable for leathers according to Ride.

Which ones, the first HG ones or the one in 5th place?

Thanks,

Mark

Or reading again in the morning with a fresh head.

Both HG boots are fairly low. 1st place is not recommended with race leathers and 5th place is not recommended with leathers. Depends if you get suited up in power ranger kit or not I guess.

Thanks.

Did they only test the more expensive sidi boots... seems a bit of an odd course of action.

They usually test quite a lot of kit for each section, maybe 20 different makes/models.

The June mag tested gloves (34 pairs) but only shows the top 5 in the other categories. I'll have a look tonight and see if I can find the boot test.

Thanks but don't worry... I'll go and buy a copy as it wouldn't appear to be as cut and dry as "buy these and you'll be laughing"

All the best,

Mark

Daytona sport evos, or security evos (if you're feeling flush). Depends how much you value your ankles!!

PS buy them from Germany and you can save about 50 % on UK prices...

I worry about the dependance on RiDE reports. sure it gives a good feed of information, but the HUGE amount of people I know that buy SOLELY on its opinions is starting to concern me.

I bought SIDI vertebra's again.

also- sold my old ones on ebay, started at £1, and got £40. they were old and used. Dont throw them in the bin, ebay em.

as Fergus says, Daytona Evo Sport GTX boots from Germany

www.motshop.de

they seem very reliable, a couple of times I've bought gear and they always email to check that things are ok

and its cheaper in euros! comfortable boots, too

How else can you compare the safety of your kit? Ride at least provides a degree of objectivity. (Although the magazine test solely relies on one product from each manufacturer, which doesn't account for manufacturing variances.)

There is a CE test for motorcycle boots, which is probably a better bet than Ride testing. Sidi's current top of the range boot, a number of Alpinestars and Oxtar boots, the odd Heine Gericke and a couple BMW boots all meet the CE standard for boots. Personally, I trust this more than Ride, but will use the magazine test in the absence of any other objective info.

It's very frustrating and unfair for manufacturers to ask us to spend hundreds of quid on non-CE approved kit, like most leathers and boots, without any objective idea how well it will work. Tricky, eh?

Incidentally, the Daytona Sports (with the plastic inner boot) didn't come out well when Ride tested them. I suspect the top of the range Daytona boots with the carbon inner boot and kangaroo leather outer would be in a different league, despite looking similar in appearance. Dainese also has a boot with a similar carbon inner boot. It's what Rossi wears, but it's only cheap Lorica (instead of proper leather) outer. Neither Daytona nor Dainese boots have CE approval either.

Cheers,

Mark

I use the Triumph expedition boots, and crashed last Sunday. Feet and ankles uninjured and boots seem undamaged.

Make your own mind up. I had some alpinstars smx before and they didnt let me down. Brought some dianese boots cheap of the tinternet and regret it as the cut into my shins and are a bugger to get on!

I quite like the look of the Hein gerick gore tex ones that came up tops. Think theyd be a good all rounder although they dont go high enough up the shin.

That price for a comfy gore tex boots seems a good buy.
