Ultimate solution was to ban motorcycles...thats what some EU member states wanted back in the 90s IIRC...

What's the point of that?!

The whole point of a motorcycle is that a human can ride it no?

Hang on, I've just invented the beer drinking robot, so you don't have to!

That sounds like complete nonsense, care to back it up?

I can't recall the facts but that certainly rings a bell, that they wanted to ban motorcycles. Not sure it ever went anywhere significant, perhaps it was one member who tried to introduce the idea or something.

Still sounds like curvy banana nonsense.
Maybe don't spread vague non-facts if you don't know for sure smile

Maybe come clean on what your previous poster name was?

But since you're too busy trying to remember which ID to log in with, try searching "eu proposal to ban motorcycles" and take your pick from the 1995 proposal around superbikes, the later proposal around 2-wheeled motorsport, or the more recent proposals around banning motorcycles in cities. Those took me a just few seconds to turn up, even you are not too important to try that.

And for the record (a) I didn't "spread vague non-facts" and (b) they're not non-facts anyway.

As you were.

Enough reason alone to be happy to be out the EU.

Except EU road transport legislation carries over to UK even after Brexit, to ensure product alignment including compulsory speed limiters on cars from 2022. Bikes next? scratchchin

Who am I supposed to have been? Do you have beef with another member? I should imagine you manage to get into a lot of arguments.
I did a quick search and only found vagueness and spin, much like when many tabloids wrongly suggested that the EU banned excessively curved bananas and other ugly fruit and veg.
Can you actually link to any evidence that the EU ever genuinely planned to ban motorcycles? The politico article linked above suggests they did but the actual detail of the article reveals that MEPs were hugely resistant to the idea and the EU forced France to overturn their own ban on high powered bikes.

Suppose it saves having even more variations a la US/Euro even though, car wise, UK market is its own entity anyway.

Emissions wise, they’re destroying the motoring industry. Staple marques like C63 etc becoming i4 hybrids? NA V10s a thing of the past? Bikes will be hit last but by that time I won’t even be ash thank god

IIRC Martin Bangemann, German EU Commissioner, wanted to ban bikes over 100hp. Fortunately the idea got thrown out because Commisioners weren't (and aren't) as all powerful as they're often made out to be. A similar thing happened with a proposal to make leg protectors (aka kneecappers) mandatory.

Sounds like a fine example of EU democracy in action then, elected representatives representing the interests of their electorates.

I discovered The Last Motorcycle clip after searching in Google. Credibility of its political-speak alarmed me. After all, who could reject policy which removes dangerous, polluting, out-of-date vehicles from our roads? This fits today's culture like a glove and portrays a genuine risk to our freedom.

The whole political agenda for road transport needs constant scrutiny and even then, banning motorcycles from road use may be inevitable grumpy
