Anyone here have any tips for negotiating a good deal on two new bikes? MrsTip and I have recently spent £1400 at our local Bike shop getting kitted up, and are about to buy a brand new CBR600RR and CBR125R from the same place - if the price is right.

They have the 600 up at £6699, and the 125 at £2499. How should I go about getting a bit off, and how low should I aim?

Any pointers greatfully received!

Ride normally have a load of info about this kind of thing. Buying last years model can save you a stack for example. I bought a 2000 uk blade in 2001 for less than you quote for the 600 and the only difference between the two years were the colours. Well worth hunting around unless you absolutely have to have the latest thing.

Honda dealers are targeted Quarterly and so will just have passed thier last target deadline. This means they've just done thier best deals and will try and get good money for thier new bikes until the end of this quarter when they may again have to do deals if they're not likely to make target - and most aren't. It is likely however that some dealers will have pre-registered some bikes last week to make target, probably 125's as they're cheaper, so you may find a new pre-registered 125 at a good price if you shop around.

Dave & I were offered a cracking deal when I bought the blade if we had wanted two instead of just one... I did the deal before they had even been released so it goes to show there are deals to be had.... just shop around - you'll find something.

I'd offer them £8000 for the pair and leave a telephone number with the dealer. Chances are he'll ring you a few times with increasingly better offers.

Groovy, thanks everyone!

£8k was the kind of figure I had in mind, so I'll let you know how I get on.

Dealer not up for giving any more than £100ish off the 125, as they've already discounted the 600 heavily (the list is £7299 OTR). Called a couple of other places, and no-one would match the price of the 600.

Bummer - now MrsTip is thinking of second hand (I'd much rather buy new).

Arse!

In about three months they'll be selling that 600 for £6000!

Does she have a full license? If so, she'd be much better off on a nearly new Kawasaki ER5 or Suzuki SV650. And you won't get so pissed at waiting for her.

Quite!

Just a shame they can't be more reasonable with the pricing over the Summer. Then they discount like mad over winter to shift the bikes they couldn't shift over the summer.
