Just had my insurance renewal come through, which as always offers the opportunity for a multitude of extras to tack onto the policy, I've tacked personal injury on, as I have the last few years it's only £17 on this policy.

The reality is it only pays out in very limited circumstances, and doesn't actually pay out enough to cover the life adaptations that would probably be required, but would give a few months peace of mind. Do you add it on?

It covers: Accidental Death £7500, Blindness in both Eyes £12,500, Blindness in one Eye £5000, Loss of arms or legs £10,000, loss of arm or leg £5000, Permanent total disability £12,500

As a side note, I'm currently with Triumph Insurance, and they have beaten the comparison sites at renewal, so no need to shop around, making me very happy to stay as a loyal customer. (I also had no complaints a few years ago when I had to make a simple claim from them)

Yeah I usually do...for £17 extra on a £150 policy. At least you will get *something* if you have a bad own fault accident. Obviously depends if you also have cover elsewhere, perhaps from your employer or as part of other critical illness type insurance you may have.

Had a recent quote and they wanted £35 a year to insure £1000 of helmet/leathers on a £150 policy. Needless to say I wont be taking that option wink

I usually take the personal accident cover. It's a small pay-out for major injuries but better than nothing if you're waiting ages to get paid out by another party's insurer or god forbid, it was an own-fault accident.

I haven't read the small print - maybe you have to claim from the other party - but at £20 it is a little bit of extra peace of mind for me.

No because as you point out the cover is so limited.

If you want cover - buy decent cover.

That cover is frankly, an insult

If the accident wasn't your fault, it might come in handy whilst you were sorting out the £500K claim against the third party.

I usually get it tagged on for free along with recovery, legal, and kit insurance. If i am going to send myself down the road then i might as well get something out of it.

Personal injury insurance through work does the rest. The joys of working for an insurance company.

However, if someone elses fault, i'll be claiming on their insurance.
