Afternoon all,

Does anyone have any tips for removing safety stickers from a new helmet?

I've had a bit of a go but struggling with no nails, and it looks like there will be a sticky residue left behind afterwards.

Obviously I'm not keen to just go at it like a bull in a china shop which is my usual approach to things, so any tips or advice would be very much appreciated!

Hairdryer on low heat to remove, it should just peel off. You can buy a 'sticky tape' residue remover or just try some meths or white spirit on a rag to get it off. Should leave no marks or signs of ever being there. Don't smoke whilst doing it! biggrin

Hair drier

Then depending what you have on hand

I use isopropanol but a lot of people don't have it, WD40 works ok if you leave it a minute

Do NOT use nail varnish remover it's too strong for helmets IMO

Thankyou! The stickers have come off, and will find one of the mentioned things to get the sticky stuff off! I'm glad nail polish remover was mentioned, my girlfriend suggested it but I wasn't convinced it was a great idea

Oh it works well but it can affect certain plastics / paint lacquer / visors etc

100% wouldn’t even risk it on plastics.

There's actually a product called "sticky stuff remover" which works well.

As others said, heat and a bit of IPA if it needs it. It is carbon so should be fine.

But you know someone is going to say it, it may not be the best thing to have done, unless you are painting it and replacing, in which case, surely you'd know how to remove them?
Many ambulance crews etc will know how to safely remove a helmet, but most joe public wont. A big yellow sticker to point them in the direction of the safety release may be useful and mean you dont end up eating through a straw for 40 years!! laugh

My Shoei has 850 quids worth of Richart Paint on it, and still has the safety stickers for removal, FWIW!

If IPA isn't readily available the alcoholic hand cleanser seems quite good as a cleaning agent. Less harmful than Acetone I would've thought.

Thats a fair point, although I'm not sure I would want a member of the public trying to get my helmet off anyway!
