All new 1200 Speed Triple
Discussion
When I test rode the current RS version it was almost there, but not quite enough to make me consider chopping my previous S1000R in for one.
It has been the only bike that I've test rode though that has stayed in my mind.
This new one, I hope will be a belter, and given Triumphs recent form I have no doubt that it will be right up there with the current crop of supernakeds.

I rode a friends 2019 RS and thought the same. Very smooth almost car like, electronics all on the safe side. Quick if you rode the mid to top torque but didnt hold out the gears but came off glad to be back on my TuonoIt has been the only bike that I've test rode though that has stayed in my mind.

Strange isnt it? I enjoyed every mile I rode on it, and could have very easily bought it straight after riding it. But within half a mile of jumping back on my bike I realised it wasn't the one for me. Still love them though and would happily have one as a second bike if I had the space and spare money.
It's always been a bike i'd like to own but just hasn't moved forward substantially over the last 10-15 years enough for me. It just feels top heavy, overly harsh and whilst torquey it's hardly a thrilling engine in my opinion. Used to love my old T509 Speed triple
but that was dated not long after release. Street triples have moved the game on massively in terms of fun . I really hope this one is going to be my Street R replacement, fingers crossed.

Yep. The Street Triple really showed what would be possible with a new engine and that was nearly 15 years ago. Getting off my 1050 onto an early Street triple was an eye opener. Not so great for those above average height though. but that was dated not long after release. Street triples have moved the game on massively in terms of fun . The new Speed does look really compact on those spy shots. Hopefully, not too small for those 6ft or more.
I do not understand why everyone wants to be conformist and have everything look and feel like everything else.
Yes, Speed RS is not like Tuono or S1000R.
I tried them all, I liked Tuono, I liked S1000R, I bought Speed RS.
They are all different and it is great, choice is great!
Yes, Speed does not have that zing that my GSXR1000R has, Speed RS is more "like a car", true, but it pulls great (117-119Nm @ 7000rpm!), sounds great, looks great. It is a relaxed ride at any rpm.
Personally, I do not care about the 10 additional kilos of the under-seat mufflers and link pipes, in fact, that is why I bought it, I wanted the "classic" look which I knew was about to be discontinued.
It is nice to have a choice, is it not? Why is everyone so concentrated on more power, low exhaust, weight "savings"? This is a street bike, ffs, not a race bike!
I looked at the pictures of the new Speed, I did not really get excited about what I saw.
I will look at it in person in a few months, and will definitely test drive it...but I am glad I bought the old model, it stands out.
The only questionable part with RS for me is the gearbox, and the quickshifter.
To me, comparing back-to-back with my GSXR, but also with S1000RR (new and old), both the gearbox and quickshifter feel ancient.
Maybe Triumph has finally built a modern Speed Triple gearbox and properly shifting quickshifter, I hope so.
