2006 Bandit 650, any points to look for when buying or any owners tales?

Thanks in advance...

There aren’t really any common failures so you are mainly looking at overall condition.

personally I'd rather have one a couple of years newer so you'd then have fuel injection rather than carbs! I think the switch over year was about 2007/8

Corrosion mainly, it'll be a furry white mess if its been ridden all year round, and I'd agree with looking at a later one with FI, and don't buy a 'modified' one, they seem to attract a certain type of owner, bog standard with at most an end can is the way to go.

Isn’t it a 600?

Pedantry apart as said above look for condition.

Presumably it’s going to be as cheap as chips even if in really good nick so don’t pay top dollar if it’s rough.

Suspension and head bearings are going to be tired if they haven’t been refreshed so budget for that.

Hundreds of them out there so don't buy one that isn't in good condition unless it is very cheap, as said already, a bog-standard one is best.

Look for it to have had regular oil and filter changes, the filter is only scheduled to be done every second oil change but only a cheapskate doesn't replace it every time.
Valve clearances are easy enough to do but often get missed on older bikes so evidence of them having been done is good; if not then budget for getting them done and the carbs balanced at the same time.

Rear suspension bearings tend to get dry and wear out; again they are easy enough to do yourself and all the parts are cheap online.

If it has a different exhaust then check underneath where the link-pipe joins the collector; ham fisted replacement can crack the weld on the collector.

Corrosion-wise, check the pipes at the front of the engine, both head down to sump and leading to and from the oil coooler.
Leaks at the top pipes (head to sump) mean taking the head off to fix them, oil cooler ones are a replacement job.

Generally they are rock-solid bikes with few major issues; I love them!

Its probably top dollar I'd imagine but low miles (sub 4k) and looks very very clean from the photos, standard from what I can see aside from a gear indicator. The dealer that has it says it's as clean as a 2 year old bike. Basically it sat unused for around 10 years and then had a full going over by a local shop.

Thoughts was it'd get me back into bikes and do for building a years no claims... I have zero suzuki experience having previously had Honda and Yamaha

It's a N.Ireland bike so stuff tends to be a bit pricier here

Looks great to me and I don't think its expensive given its condition, it is in fantastic shape, get it bought!

One thing I would recommend if you are planing to ride it all year is to cover it in xcp rust blocker to protect the finish, they do deteriorate very quickly if ridden when there is salt on the roads.

Funny enough I also have had a glance at that very bike ad.
Was tempted due to the miles on it . The wife put me off buying it by reminding me I need to pay for golf membership and I have just this month replaced the cash I took/borrowed from the account to buy a properly sorted, Low mile, clean fzs1000 that I bought to replace the lowish miles clean fzs1000 I already had.
