It’s getting about time I replaced my Arai RX7 as I’ve realised I bought it in 2013!, it hasn’t had any drops or accidents but I know they degrade and I value my head!.
Obvious choice would probably be another RX7 but I’m open to others of a similar quality, my budget is say £500-650, use is very occasional work commute in the summer, weekend blasts and track day use so full face only, I’m looking to order something online in the next few weeks so it’s ready for when the weather gets better in March and the lockdown has hopefully ended too.

Shoei x spirit 3.

It won’t disappoint.

I just replaced my old lid with a Shoei GT air 2. Very impressed. Very comfy, quiet and comes with a pin lock. The only gripe is that the space for the built in intercom made by senna gets in the way of placing my cardo packtalk. Had to use the sticky pad rather than the clip.

Buy whatever fits best.

I do recommend the AGV Corsa/Pista though. It gives such a wide angle of sight compared to any other helmet I’ve tried

FWIW I once had an Arai painted by Piers Dowell. He told me that he has to dismantle the helmet before he applies any paint and based on what he had seen of many different types of helmet, he was firmly of the opinion that Arai helmets were the best made helmets he had seen.

Another vote for the x spirit 3, very light compared to the Arai.

My next one will be a Schuberth C4 flip front.

For now I’ll just keep my old helmet clean, dry and out of the sunlight when not in use.

Yeah that’s not really the same end of the market as an RX7.... not to say it’s a bad helmet though!

I’ve got a weird head that fits both Arai and Shoei equally well so generally stick to those. Arai’s are always a bit more noisy due to the side pods but I ride for similar reasons to you so a bit of noise doesn’t bother me. I want an X spirit next but annoyingly my favourite colour scheme was on the x spirit 2 so can’t get that!

Had a Shark Race-R Pro carbon for 6 years now. It was last years colour at the time and nearly 1/2 price. Great VFM, they are about £550-600 RRP. It fit well, was the right colour scheme and on sale. ..about 250g lighter than an RX-7.

Isn’t everything lighter than a rx7?

That’s a good recommendation thanks, they do a colour scheme which will look great with my bike too.

Can I ask what makes it so much better?, I’m not disputing your opinion it’s more that I’m just curious about what makes it so good.
I’ve never had any issues or a bad word to say about the RX7 and I had another of them before the one I have now, I’m wondering if I’ve been missing out.

Order a selection from sportsbikeshop, would definitely recommend trying the X Lite XR803 RR CARBON FIBRE jobbie....

I have one of those. The sun visor doesn't flip down very well - needs a bit of persuasion from inside. Tricky with gloves on too. I like everything else about it though, but I'll probably go for something else next time.

I seem to remember stumbling on a website that had an organisation based on what kind of head shape suited which brands, anyone remember which one it is?

I have a Bell-shaped head, but it'd be nice to find which other brands might be good for me without wasting time trying a dozen haphazardly.

I have a Shoei shaped head and have found that :-
Bell
Arai
X-Lite and 1 other that I can't recall right now don't fit me too well.

But
Shoei
AGV
And HJC are all comfortable to wear.
