I hope to move house in the next 3 months. New place will have good access to an open plan living/kitchen area via French doors. I was thinking of putting my bike on display next winter to pamper it.
Is there anything I should think about, like draining the petrol tank, as I am slightly paranoid about blowing the place up from a combo of wood burner & gas hob.....

I'm sure this has been discussed on here before, but PERSONALLY I wouldn't be storing a bike in the house for any length of time out of choice. Even once you've drained the petrol, and ideally the oil, and removed the battery - the tyres will still burn like buggery and produce horrible black acrid smoke if there is a fire.

If there's another option take it, otherwise drain the fluids and don't put it near any ignition sources.

Yep, fire is my biggest concern, but only as a result of petrol vapour. The idea was to protect from cold & condensation in a crappy uninsulated shed - a bit like a showroom...

Build in some extra ventilation it'll be fine

My pleasure, it's a good one isn't it? Funny that Rubin and the other guy start out saying the same thing (that it's a bad idea), I've never seen people agree so acrimoniously.

I missed that thread going so far off the rails, crikey! Worth a read if only for entertainment, but there is some good stuff in there too.

Ultimately everyone has their own level of risk which they're happy to accept, as long as they aren't going into it ignorant of that risk there isn't too much more you can ask. Same thing applies to riding a bike really!

Seems likely that my house insurance would probably be invalid if the place went up with a bike inside. Even draining all fluids would still leave an awful lot of flammable plastics, tyres etc. Relegation to the crappy shed it is then....

Can't see the issue with keeping the bike indoors during winter, my bike is constantly locked away indoors, as long as you drain fuel and don't put it next to a fire all should be well..

Houses are full of crap that will give off thick black acrid smoke should there be a fire.

Just need to be sensible.

Get a carcoon bike bubble for your bike and put it in the shed.

Fire risk aside, I would like to have my bike in an open plan house, it would look pretty cool.
