... on all motorcycles. Not to help recover stolen bikes, but to monitor them for excessive speed and provide their location to the police, for the purpose of prosecuting riders.

The PCC, Kim McGuinness appears to have realised this is a stupid idea as the article on the PCC website https://www.northumbria-pcc.gov.uk/media-gallery/l... has been removed and replaced with a statement about off-road motorcycles only. However there is a screen grab from the ADVrider site I linked above, which clearly states she is referring to ALL motorcycles having a mandatory tracker fitted for the express purpose of prosecuting riders.

If you would like to reiterate to Ms McGuinness it is a bad idea to be fitting mandatory trackers to the personal property of ordinary citizens in order to provide their location and activity information direct to the police, then you can email her using the contact details on the Northumbria PCC web home page here https://www.northumbria-pcc.gov.uk

STATEMENT RE OFF-ROAD BIKE TRACKERS
25th March 2021

The Commissioner recently issued a press release calling on the Government to explore the idea of trackers being fitted to off-road motorbikes. This would help certain high risk bikes be recovered if stolen and deter misuse.

This move could help tackle growing motorbike misuse and anti-social behaviour throughout the region, and beyond. The problem is putting people in danger and is causing great concern within many communities.

These proposals caused concern to some law-abiding bikers, and we’d like to make clear that we are now working with motorcycle groups to look at more acceptable proposals.

The Commissioner is pleased that this has opened up conversation with the relevant parties and is now looking forward to working with them in finding solutions to tackle bike related ASB caused by a very small minority of bike users. Anyone with ideas and suggestions that will help cut this crime and keep people safe is encouraged to contact the office.

You're assuming that the idea won't resonate with the majority?

I could use my surplus of tin foil to wrap it around said tracker, rendering its antenna useless....
My kid got rid of her car a couple of years ago - it had a black box fitted for insurance purposes. I took it apart to see how easy it would be to override - either whip out the backup battery & cut power supply from vehicle, or wrap box with foil.

I'm sure the kids riding unregistered, untaxed, uninsured, possibly stolen bikes without a licence and probably not even being old enough to have one would be more than happy to fit (and presumably pay for) a tracker.

Where do they find these people..?

Are you confusing that with the speed limiter? I haven't heard about a tracker.

This statement was not made on 25 March, even though it is dated 25 March. This statement was uploaded to the PCC website on 15 April. The true statement made on 25 March, referred a request by the Police and Crime Commissioner to make legislation to make compulsory trackers on all motorbikes. All bikes; not just off-road bikes. And for the purpose of detecting speeding, not for the purpose of recovering stolen bikes.

ADVRider has done an analysis of what was said and when, including of the falsely dated quote above.

Here is the real statement issued 25 March, not the statement copied above actually made in April but falsely backdated to 25 March:

So she back pedaled to only include off road bikes.......I smell an opportunity for mission creep to sneek on road bikes in the small print

Sorry, but am I missing something here? Where does the PCC statement say "for the purpose of detecting speeding"?

Yes, or you can clone the plate of a bike that has got tax, MoT and insurance (as checked on-line) and you're completely in the clear ...
