Any bargain bikes left?
Discussion
Seems prices have gone wild just when I need a bike to infill for 6 months or so whilst mines off the road - could have sworn a couple of years ago there were all sorts of old, but maintained, bikes in the £500 > £1k bracket - now I actually need something seems the markets gone upwards
Are their any bargains out there? Looking for > 500cc - ST1100's, Bandits, BMW R bikes with high miles, all seem to have a ceiling price of £1500 - tips/pointers on where to look besides ebay & marketplace?

We have this place near me, it's nice to have a bike shop that deals in really low budgets too. But at that price you might as well go private if you know what you're looking at.

Quite possibly because after a year of WFH, a sufficient number of people are waking up to the reality of returning to the office via the disease-infested hellhole that is public transport and thinking 'I have a bike license, it's summer coming up, and I don't want Covid. I'll try commuting on a bike'.
There are only so many bikes on the market at any one time - prices will rocket even if only a relatively small number of people all start buying at at the same time.

Cheapest way I have seen is get an idea if the model you would like then join the biggest Facebook group you can find for it.
Prices often lower than eBay and half a chance they have been maintained better.
Gumtree also an alternative but the experience may cost you, just not in terms of money.

Cheapest 500cc + bike is over £1500https://www.budgetbikesuk.co.uk/
At the budget end you're far better looking on FB / Ebay
I think the problem is anything that fits a certain roll; eg commuter or fun always have a higher entry point on the market.
I'm trying to sell my gladius (too small for me), 65 plate, low miles, recent service and chain. Cheapest out there and not had a nibble.
I guess it's not a desirable bike and there must be some cheap less desirable models about.

Exactly what a dealer told me last year when I was looking for a decent <£2k 125cc. Every sort of bike is being snapped up. He said the amount of bikes he was shipping off to cities for people that were going to use them for work. I'm going to be doing my DAS shortly and wanting something fairly modern and to be honest, It almost makes sense to buy new. Things like MT07s, Ninja 650 etc aren't that differently priced at 2 years old to a new model.

good luck on the DAS! I was looking forward to the 2nd hand price of bikes like the royal enfield interceptor - so cheap new, second hand could look like an absolute bargain... except I've not seen many second hand at much of a discount!I'm going to be doing my DAS shortly and wanting something fairly modern and to be honest, It almost makes sense to buy new. Hope I don't get my wrist slapped You're probably miles from me............

This is in the back of my garage
Needs a battery and fork seals (have the fork seals)
Three quarters of your max budget

I'm in the same boat, I need to get rid of my car and get a bike again cause fuel costs for a V8 Jag are doing my head in. I miss spending £20 a week opposed to £20 a day in some cases.
Very few cheap things up for sale here atm, i'm in N.I where everything is overpriced but this pandemic has just made the prices worse. Anything cheap gets bought up by the driveway dealers then sold on for 2-3 times what they paid. I'm not paying £3k plus for a 20 year old 600 lol.

Had an old SRAD 600 pop up on Facebook group earlier. Wants £1500 and it has a seized engine.
I picked up a 2000 GSXR-600 the end of last year, joined up for the facebook pages and it surprises me the amount of ads with the description "great bike for sale, no MOT but will sail though" if it will why not put an MOT on it then??Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
