Trying to decipher a classic 1950s bike

I've been going through some of my dad's old photos and came across one of him on a motorcycle at some point in the 1950s



I'm thinking it's some kind of Norton perhaps, does anyone with a little more knowledge of bikes from that era know what it might be?

It’s a 1930s BSA overhead valve single. Not too clued up on the models (Blue Star, Empire Star etc) but looks 350 or 500cc to me.
