Inline fuel filter

My bike conked out after being restored. I think it's picking up crap from the tank from storage and being painted. Does anyone have a recommendation for a inline fuel filter they have used recently?

I fitted one to a bike years ago which caused as many problems as it solved and been put off fitting one again since. There is so much cheap rubbish I'm not sure what's good.

I have fitted the plastic/paper ones from eBay on multiple bikes/cars and never had an issue.

One thing I always use now is clear fuel line. It may be crap from the tank is blocking the tap and no fuel is making it out of the tank. Clear fuel lines you can see exactly what is going on.
