New bike regrets
Discussion
Triumph Bobber. Loved the bike, hated the range from the piddly little tank. No option to go on longer touring without stressing over refueling. If I could justify two bikes I would have kept it.
edit: had it about 18 months, did ±1600 miles on it, cost me 3 grand and change in depreciation from new.

Triumph Tiger 1050.
Bought without a test ride to replace my beloved Thundercat.
Hated it, way too grown up and serious, traded it back in at the same dealer for a Street Triple R.
My data is going through the same feelings with his Tiger 800 (after coming from a GS). We both agree that once you've started wondering if you've bought the wrong bike then it's just a matter of time before it goes - bikes have to be more heart than head decision.

S1000 RR 2015. It’s just too much as a road bike and I’m not good enough to get the most out of it on track. It’s too easy to ride too fast (in a straight line or on gentle A & B roads).
2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sport. Got the second one sold to UK public. A few little annoying problems which have really taken the shine off owning it. Feel like a guinea pig for Honda with it. Ridden it in all conditions as that’s what I bought it for. Kept it coated in ACF and it’s still corroded from the salt. 18 months in to owning 4,800 miles and considering voluntary termination. But when it’s all working as it should, it’s a fabulous bike.

Great replies. More interested in the process of making the change. How much did it cost? Did you buy from a dealer? were they sympathetic with a trade in allowance etc?
Obviously I am starting to feel I may have made the wrong choice myself...
Mine came from an independent dealer, so obviously not new.Obviously I am starting to feel I may have made the wrong choice myself...
Can't recall the numbers as they were some time ago now but I seem to remember that they found it all quite amusing and while they weren't acting like a charity with the trade in value, I didn't feel completely robbed. I told them I thought I'd bought the wrong bike and what could they do for me. The fact I bought from them a couple of months before didn't really make much difference to the trade in figures.
I then crashed the Tiger on the way home from doing the deal, but that's another story

Triumph Sprint GT.
I’ve still got it and it does what it’s designed for really well i.e touring.
But it’s bloody heavy. I came from a ZZR 1100 but the Sprint seems to have its weight higher up.
But it’s gold so what’s not to like

That looks good to me. Thanks for the info. about the weight being high up, I've been getting quite close to one I sometimes see parked up as the seat height looks like I'd fit. I saw another one with a nicely done exhaust exhaust surround panel that appealed to me. I’ve still got it and it does what it’s designed for really well i.e touring.

Back in early 2017 I bought a KTM 990 adventure (one of the late models on a 2013 plate) that had been stored for 2 years as the chap had lost his licence for medical reasons.
Just 1400 miles from new and all the right little extras like panniers and top box etc.
I'd test ridden one and loved it!
Back in the real world I found it too tall for my little legs, a bit too heavy and worth so much that if I'd have dropped it due to the aforementioned I'd have been gutted so it put me off riding it or gave me some nerves riding it.
Paid £7500 and sold it 4 or 5 months later with 3000 extra miles on the clock for £7000.
£500 loss (if we ignore the fact I took a loan out to pay for it as I didn't pay the loan back immediately ....)
I tried to view it as I bought a KTM experience... Most experience days cost more per hour than I spent so it was a good deal in that respect

KTM 660 smc back in '15. Already had a Aprilia Mille and wanted a 'toy' for messing about on.
Incredible fun blasting back roads and would wheelie at the thought of the throttle but the lack of leccy starter was an absolute 'mare. It was also very temperamental and you had to 'know' how to start it. Having to dismount, push to the side and start booting over and over got tiring very quickly,
Loved the bike but the negatives quickly overtook the positives

Won an Ebay auction for a trackbike '04 R1, lots of toys but just didn't gel with it, got the bike cheap but ended up spending a grand or two getting it sorted, shock/forks, new clutch, swingarm bushes to name a few.
Never really got on with it, would shake it's head everywhere under hard acceleration and didn't feel too stable compared to the numerous Ducati's I'd tracked previously.

Bought after I was banned for speeding for 3 weeks back in about 1978 on my VFR. Thought I had better get something slower. The HD was a lovely looking bike and I could see the appeal if you had big open roads to cruise around on. However, I never could feel what the front end was doing and gave up riding it. Sold it after 3 years and 800 miles and bought a ZZR 1200. Much more my cup of tea, a big sport tourer. Now on my second K1300S which is a brilliant bike.
