Currently going through DAS and have my heart set on an SV650. A nice looking low-ish mileage one has come up for a good price locally however the owner has highlighted the following (the fact it has been mentioned is a tick in the box for me as I wouldn't have known any different) -

"Things I've noticed and know about the bike. Looks like someone has tried to make it go faster. The top butterflies in the throttle bodies have been removed and the STVA looks to have been deactivated. The butterflies would restrict airflow so I presume that's why they were removed. There is an error code, the F1 light comes on after startup which is related to the STVA."

Does anyone have any experience with this mod, and if it's possible/necessary to reverse it? If so, roughly what cost would I be looking at? Just wary of being lured in by a good price then having aload of trouble/big bills on my hands

Dozens of them out there so unless this one is stupid cheap then buy a different one.

No matter how happy you are to get your hands dirty, this will be your first proper bike so you don't want one that may turn out to be a nightmare when all you are going to want to do is ride it.

I'm willing but pretty clueless - based on that think I'll give it a swerve! Thanks

Would be easy to sort from what my mate who's building a track bike says, but that relies on tinkering with it yourself, at professional rates forget it unless it's a simple swap.

I think it’s more likely its been removed because it wasn’t working.

Either way I would give it a swerve to.

Yeah having done some more reading up on SV specific forums seems to be a fairly common fault and people do this as a workaround instead of replacing so think you're probably right.

Thanks for the advice all - more patience needed from me until a clean one comes up (although like I said if it hadnt been mentioned don't think I'd have known unless it was blatantly very strange at idle...!)
