Hi All,

Thinking of getting a Panigale 1299 and was after your ownership opinions if you owned one.

They are up to 6 years old now and I have seen reported issues with tft screens, chains impacting on swing arms, leaking
clutch slaves, quick shifter malfunction.

Did you own one, any issues?

Would you own one without a manufacturers warranty?

I have a 1299s and all those things you mention are common, but they are not major and can be solved quite easily. I have no warranty on mine, but it does have FSH.

OK, apart from the screens. The plastic covers are known to crack, I think when left in direct sunlight. I'm not sure how much to replace one of those.

Clutch slaves are a weakness and Oberon seems to be the go to replacement. OEM quick shifters also go, but I think the go to is Translogic. I've not noticed anything on my swingarm from the chain. Popped rads are also common, you can get guards for that. Paint is also wafer thin.

Get one!

TFT screens are £675, plus keys have to be coded to it. Not sure if screen protectors help to stop the cracking?

They’d not solved this issue with the V4 either, mine had to go back under warranty for the same reason.

Wonder if a dark tinted screen would keep some of the heat off the TFT?

Just to add, if you haven't already, I'd ride a 1299 before you buy one. I was expecting it to be a real torque monster, but the reality is, not much happens under 5k revs, and it's all done by 11k. My S1000RR was pulling hard by 6k, and went on to 14k, and I'm fairly sure the Beemer is faster. But the Ducati looks and sounds miles better. Though I'd be a bit twitchy, if it didn't have a Ducati warranty.

Yes, that is my plan.

Ride all the bikes that I fancy before deciding.

I retire tomorrow, so now have plenty of time.

Just booked a tour of the NC500 on my current bike, Z1000 (2005) Kawasaki for 18th July.

Previous bike was a S1000RR HP4 .. it was amazing.

Congrats on the retirement. thumbup

Enjoy the NC500. I did it with a few Old Gits just over a week ago - great fun.

If you are travelling on the A82 to get to the NC500, make sure you do the Kinlochleven long cut - A gread bit of road! biggrin

I think it depends on what you're looking for. If you want the fastest bike, I'd expect something recent with 4 cylinders would ride away from a 1299 in most situations. But, a 1299 is still pretty fast.

What about the Aprilia?, would be a good comparison back to back with the 1299 if you’re test riding a few different bikes.

1299S - great sportsbike, very exciting on un-congested winding roads, not so fun in queues and slow traffic

personally, having tried everything and anything, and being current owner of GSXR1000RR and Speed Triple 1050RS, I would go for the latest KTM Superduke 1290R, because it is:
super exciting already at 3000rpm,
every blip on the throttle brings joy,
it sounds marvelous,
is very comfortable,
easy in slow city traffic (even with a pillion),
and the handling is second to none.

I’ve no idea, other manufacturers don’t seem to suffer the same issues though, is Ducati using a cheaper, thinner screen I wonder?, it’s been an issue I’ve heard of going back to the 1199/899 you’d have thought they’d have sorted it by now.

The screen on my BMW cracked for no good reason. But at least that could be replaced for around £60.
