hi all

maybe ive been very lucky but I thought you can park your motorcycle on a pavement as long as not obstructing (and not in london.) I'll be the first to admit i could know my highway code a bit better ..

ive got a ticket and im wondering about contesting it - The main reason being its right outside my office so i like parking here as i can keep an eye on it from liverpool scallies (was chained to last rack) and ive done it a lot in the past.

so in my defence... pavement is huge, multiple ways around the bike and bike rack, im not nearer the kerb than the rack so its not preventing really sight, not in the double yellow zone. parking P sign on the rack - scraping the barrel here i know

the reasons i can see for getting a ticket - 'no loading at any time' isnt great i guess. I'm close to zigzags which means no parking on the road due to the pedestrian crossing

whats the general consensus from these pics? dhead parking, or dhead ticketer (or both)?

I think the last picture says it all, parking for bicycles. I feel for you though, as I would probably want to do the same. I imagine there must be some dedicated motorbike parking areas somewhere?

There's a place near me where motorcycles fill the bicycle parking facilities like those. It would make some sense if they were chaining them to the railings, but they don't. It just prevents others from doing so.

You're not allowed to park a motor vehicle on the pavement unless there are signs/markings to say you can. Just because it isn't always enforced doesn't mean it's OK to do.

yes i guess that is frustrating. Im a cyclist too, but parking is so extortionate i can see why it happens.

I see it (and have done it myself) all over liverpool centre which makes this one all the more annoying, dunno whether to take my chances and carry on doing it.

I can see myself doing it once more hah. any more than 70 would sting.

It's a restricted street (has double yellow lines on the street), they just aren't painted under crossing zig zags.

In reality, it's no different to all those infuriating electric hire scooters abandoned all over the foot-way is it?

Those zigzags would mean no parking on the pavement for the length of them as well as the road, a visibility issue, a child could be walking towards the crossing and not be in view of an approaching driver because of your motorcycle.

And with it being a crossing, the child might just walk out without thinking.

I dare say that now a traffic warden has 'found you', they will be paying regular visits hoping for an easy catch.

This.

Harsh but officially it's for cycles only.

I almost always park on the pavement in town (nipping to bank, shop etc) and outside London I’d have thought getting a ticket was a bit harsh - and in those lockable cycle bays doubly so.

I’d have a go at contesting it on the “security” grounds - the cycle racks to chain your bike to.

It seems so petty to me. Surely riding a bike to work is good for lowering congestion & emissions - but as usual, there is zero joined up thinking from the authorities.
The knock-on is that your pride & joy could potentially get stolen if parked elsewhere. IMO its ridiculous & there should be a change in the law. In saying that, parked at/on a pedestrian crossing is probably not a great idea......
