I'm hoping to get back into riding after a few years away, about 10 iirc!

My previous bike history was: CBR600 > SP1 > CBR600RR > GSXR600 > Z1000 (2003)

Favourite was the SP1; loved the torque, sound, etc, but not so keen on throttle at lower revs. Also liked the Z1000 being the most comfortable and easiest to ride.

I'd like a naked bike, easy to ride and fun, it'll only be used for fun, summer riding!

The bike I'd really like is an MV Brutale (or maybe a V4 Tuono) but wondering if I should re-start with something a bit 'easier' as I've read they can be a fit firm and not great fuelling at lower revs???... maybe a Street Triple or a CB1000R?

So, question is!...

Do I dive in and go for what I'd ultimately like/want (Brutale) and get the suspension set-up/tuned and fuelling sorted (if it can?) OR, go for something "easier" to re-build confidence etc?

Heart says plan A, head says plan B! laugh

Cheers

Thanks smile

What about the fueling/throttle on the MV; could that be re-mapped to smooth it out?

I'd plan to do some confidence/skill building training as well.

Not sure about the MV, but I have a MT09 that is known to have a snatchy throttle and I had it mapped out easily enough via the ECU.

Don’t see why the MV would be any different.

Slightly aside to the actual question, but... Insurance is not cheap for those who have not been riding continuously and have returned to a bike at the more powerful end of the spectrum. This being a product of lack of practice and properly quick modern kit equalling increased accident risk. Years continuous riding formed part of the questions of my recent renewal.

If you do decide to go in at the deep end, then I'd strongly recommend a bit of training and also take time to go out on your own and chill, so no pressure to keep up with anyone. The best advice you will get with training is... looking ahead = smooth, so quick then comes naturally.

Suspension setup will be something you will develop a taste for when back in the groove. As for throttle, I did look into calming my KTM's low speed fuelling down with a dongle (no power change), but many insurers simply refused cover.

Insurance is a good point, perhaps get a quote; some insurers will not insure you on a litre bike due to lack of recent experience.

Having a snatchy throttle on your motorcycle that you only use for fun is a first world problem of the highest order. You will learn to ride around inconveniences like that any way. Get what you like the most and enjoy it as much as you can. Life's to short to worry about st like that smile

Just get the Brutale, the l078 and 1090 series fueling was much better than previous models. The IL4 Brutale has been around nearly 20 years and they did sort them out along the way. Touch wood my 2015 bike has been faultless over 14k miles.

saw one same as mine below in of the MV facebook groups the other day, for £8500 for a 2015 with 6k miles ....lot of bike for the money

I'm in a similar situation. I last had been off a bike for 9 years. Last one was a TDM900 that I commuted from Chelmsford to the West End on.

I planned on doing some training and easing myself back in.

Then I saw the perfect Multistrada 950 on spokes for sale. I saw it over the May Bank Holiday and picked it up a week later. Had to ride it from Southampton to Exeter which was the first time back on a bike in 9 years.

I was surprised how quickly the basics came back, the finesse is still a work in progress. I rode the Multi on Urban mode (75bhp) for the first thousand miles. Just switched to Touring to get the full effect.

Insurance is £250 fully comp. But then I am a boring old fart!

Get what you want just take it easy and perhaps avoid any group rides for a while.

Re: insurance, I've put my details in on "Confused" with "0" no claims years and have had quotes for a 990/1090 Brutale of just under £300 with a £350 excess via the AA, a CB1000R was £131/£400 xs with carol Nash and a Street Triple was £145/£250 xs with Devitt, so seems do-able.

Nice looking machine; I'd be looking to spend up to around 5k though wink

I tried to join a UK MV group on facebook last week - approval still pending! wobble

I prefer the MV forums to the facebook groups, dont go on there often. Forum has years of history on everything

https://www.mvagusta.net/forums/

Many of the older 920 etc will have exhausts and been remapped, if you do find a standard one there a plenty of options out there.

I am 3 months into my return to biking. Mainly due to a CB400n superdream dropping into my lap. I was concerned that after 15 years I might need to be on a smaller bike for a while to get back into it. 500 miles in I class the 400 as barely fast enough but I am enjoying the evening rides on A and B roads. It comes back very quickly.

I am getting a bike after a few years away from it.
I started on a VFR400,then a CCM R30,after that a Husaberg 550,finally a 1050 Speed triple.
Now I’m looking at a SV650 or similar to ride the wheels off it rather than be a garage queen.
