Trans U.S. adventure.

Hi Guys,
I am looking to organise an adventure. I have ridden a CRM250 900mls down to the islands through Thailand five years ago. Now getting on a little and looking for some adventure but also some comfort if required. The plan is to fly to Florida, spend two days bike shopping, buy two bikes (old BM's would be great) and ride them to Los Angeles, sell them when we get there. Adventuring on the way. Anybody done this? And can recomend points of interest? Also up for company if anyones got three weeks to spare in late September.
