Does anyone know of any issues with CBR600RR's overheating?

I've got an '04 one which seems to get hot very quickly when in town traffic (102 C). The fan kicks in at 106 C, but tonight the bike seemed to cut out at 108 C when I got home, but I was too knackered to try and re-start it.

The guy I bought it from said that I should switch it off and let it cool down if it gets to 102, but the manual indicates that it shouldn't be a problem unless it gets to 120 C. I find it surprising that it seems so keen to get hot, so any pointers will be gratefully received (google hasn't really managed to turn anything up this time).

I'm sure its probably fine! My bike, though not a CBR, certainly tops the 100 degree mark with no probs. I wouldn't worry or just take it back to the dealer?

Don't know about CBR600's but my Ducati will easily reach 120c on the guage if stopped in traffic on a hot day without boiling over, however the speedo will reach almost 180mph on a good day (so I'm told) so I think that both guages are slightly 'optimistic'

It's still fg hot though! - mind you '180'mph is still fg fast

Disclaimer; in view of recent reportings of police and Scamera 'Scum' monitoring posts on motoring websites regarding speeding, I should say that all the above information is entirely ficticious and is in fact a load of bollox - in fact I don't even ride a bike, actually I don't even exist, never mind having ridden a bike in excess of the speed limit which is something that I would never do oh no!

I think the bikes must run with small water jackets, to keep the weight down. My R1 is very quick to go over 102/104 degrees.

My R1 temp gauge got up to 96c when it was 32c outside this summer and that was while i was sat at some traffic lights. Generally i wouldnt worry about 104/106c once you get going a bit the air cooling does it bit and cools things down.It is a bit scarey though when you do see that much on the gauge

Thanks guys. It did get up to 108 today when I kept getting stuck at traffic lights through Brighton, but soon got down again once I was moving.

I also run a 600RR and regularly see 106 in traffic (fan cuts in a 104), but never seen any higher than 108. I've NEVER heard of any issues with over-heating. You could always check out www.cbr600.org.uk if you want, they're a friendly bunch.

hi,ive got an R1 and a CBR600RR and the underseat exhausts dont help it stay cool on either, i regularly see 106 on my CBR and usually 104 on my R1 but they go back into the 90s once your moving.

Thanks chaps - I've found this too. Never over 108. The guy I bought the bike from made me nervous by saying Ishould stop and let the bike cool down if it got to 102.

Crazy fool! He must have mis-read the manual which says you may get problems if the coolant gets to 120.
