My 2000 fireblade is making an odd noise when banked over when turning at low speeds. It's a kind of a thunking noise at wheel speed, not engine speed which I can feel more than hear through my left foot peg (not the right one). I can't feel it at all at high speeds and as I accelerate it turns from a thunk type feel to a faster rubbing type feel. It's been getting steadily worse over the last two weeks.

Chain is about 5000 miles old having been replaced at 15000 miles for the first time and looks in good nick, cush drive is new.

Any opinions on what it might be? Early signs of wheel bearing failure? Gearbox output bearing failure?

Thanks,

Mark

sounds like wheel bearing to me , especially if it's just one side. Can you get back wheel off the ground for a listen/feel ?

I think there's 2 bearings in the wheel and one in the sprocket plate. If the bearing in the sprocket plate had gone do you think the 'click' could transmit itself down one side of the bike only to be felt only at the left peg?

I'll do that tonight I think.

Damnit, all these thing happen at once, now I've 3 knackered vehicles... the wife won't be pleased when I take her car to get to work given the justification to have all this stuff was for back-up purposes

Thanks,

Mark

No noises, roughness. Took the wheel off and the sprocket carrier bearing feels notchy. I'll change that and the wheel bearing I guess and see what changes.

Sounds like your long-weight is worn. Your local dealer will sell you a new one very cheaply.

Finally got around to changing the bearings. Annoyingly as soon as the bearings arrived in the post the symptoms stopped but it still felt a little crunchy but the knocking has gone away.

When I got all the bearings out there was no notchiness in the wheel bearings at all but there was in the sprocket carrier bearing. Changed them all anyway so they should see me through another 20k at least.

Anyway, feels much better now.

Regards,

Mark

PS... Dave, do you find yourself standing on your own at parties?
