..to becoming a biker and booked my CBT for a week on Thursday! :D Really looking forward to it - I only went into the bike shop to pick up a battery for a friend's Fazer Thou! Any ideas what I should expect? Also, is it worth buying gear at this stage? Cheers!

My CBT place had the gear you could borrow so there's no rush. Bike shows are a great place to get gear from apparently, so if you can find one local to you (I was going to recommend the BMF tail ender in Peterborough in September, but then I saw your location) you can save a fortune.

You won't regret doing your CBT, it's a fantastic day out, just remember the bigger bikes are more stable than those 125s they make you ride.

Hi, great news.
I did mine 2 weeks ago, never ridden before. Great day, they had all the gear to loan in with the price. Enjoy

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. I have sourced some gear (i.e. the gear I wear when riding pillion on said Fazer) and even had a little shot on the bike on private land - well I revved it up and let the clutch out, did a little turn and stopped again, but it gave me a feel for it! Only thing I am slightly nervous about is having cat A on my licence which the girl in the shop said i needed - can't for the life of me remember if i have it on there. I would hope so!

At the moment I think i will keep my car, but hopefully next year once i have saved some ££ i fancy getting maybe a Fazer 6 to start off, or possibly a Gixxer 6 - am I being realistic?! Again, any advice welcome! Cheers

You'll have the A thing, it allows you to ride mopeds on you car licence, you'd better check to make sure and remember to take both parts of your licence with you to the CBT.

As for first bike, it's been asked a lot on here, most people say go for a 600cc bike that you feel comfortable on, all the big manufacturers make at least one.

Got cat A so that's a relief. Just need to get myself some boots and we're laughing!

Got the boots, passed the test!

I'm also really tempted (although I said I wouldn't) to do my direct access - today was such a buzz! Besides, the Yamaha dealer has a cracking 0% deal on a new Fazer 6...
