IAM cancelling training due to temperature
Discussion
Getting seriously f
ked off with TVAM at the moment. This coming weekends advanced bike control course (on a runway) is cancelled due to the expected temperature.....
Can anyone recommend a track day for absolute novices (as far as track is concerned)? I'm very tempted by rapid training for the rest of it.

Usually have very useful people around who can give you basic training, certainly sufficient to give you accurate training on how to control a bike and understand the physics.

It's bloody ridiculous! I checked my KTM owners manual the other day: apparently the particular model is sold in the UK/EU & also Australia, with identical specs including oil & coolant. If it works Down Under in 45 degree heat, then what's the problem?
Sure, you'll get a bit sweaty during the briefing, but once above 30mph will not be an issue.
I'm sick & tired of the nannying, particularly from the media!
Anyway, I'm off for a decent rideout this coming Sunday - hopefully the roads won't melt....

What nannying from the media are you talking about? Surely if it's going to be really hot it's reasonable, and indeed responsible, for news outlets to say "it's going to be really hot, have a bit of a think about not getting sunstroke, especially think about kids and old people"? If you want to have 7 pints of strong lager sitting in the midday sun, no-one's stopping you. I don't see any nannying going on.Sure, you'll get a bit sweaty during the briefing, but once above 30mph will not be an issue.

Cancelling a riding event is different, and a bit annoying - could be an insurance thing, could be people being risk-averse. I suspect either way it's not because the bikes would get too hot.

This. Also, it sounds like the training would be at low speeds, with lots of stopping, so little chance to get up to speed and cool down.

Yeah, this. Personally I would be fine with doing some IAM, but I've biked in a lot of hot-as-f
k places and know what to expect. I also have mesh gear for hot weather. IAM are probably worried that bikers with no hot-as-f
k riding experience will pass out, perhaps while going at 100mph. We've had soldiers die from heat exhaustion on the Brecon Beacons and kids ambulanced off of Dartmoor with it while doing the umpteen Tors or whatever it's called camping and hiking weekend.
I am no fan on the IAM, I am an ex-Member and unlikely to become a member again as I am only interested in driving and riding standards not what the IAM seems to have become now.
They have to cover themselves for their people, the guests and possible brand damage. I bet the tyres get nice and sticky though.

Soldiers doing marches, or kids hiking is not the same as a motorcycling day out through is it? I appreciate what you are saying, but moving on a motorcycle and rehydrating with a cuppa now and then is just normal stuff. I dread to think how the human race has survived this long without the intervention of the H&S police, and I say this as a H&S professional, who actually understands what risk is. Most of Australia is not 45c it's only NT and maybe northern WA, the rest is around mid 30s and even when it does hit 40c+ the Australians suffer just as much as us.Sure, you'll get a bit sweaty during the briefing, but once above 30mph will not be an issue.

It's not so much the bike but the rider who feels it.
Also, many of the KTM models are built in India. They know about hot!
It’s cancelled because it’s a) too unpleasant for the volunteers who run it to stand out in 30c heat, on a tarmac runway with no shade, in bike gear all day. And b) because similar for the participants. The venue has almost no facilities, so it doesn’t seem unreasonable, although it’s obviously disappointing for the participants.
It’s nothing like a track day venue where you could be out of the sun for 75% of the time when you’re not riding.
