always keep your eyes open for some mesh/air jackets, worth every penny (I bought mine in January years ago for £20, best money spent)

Aside from that I still wear some old Triumph textiles which have good ventage.

Gotta admit, for the first time in my life I'm nearly at a temp where jeans and a t-shirt might be all I wear for town rides.

Yes, mesh is what I'm after.

Did think about going w/o protection but you can guarantee I'll end up sliding down the road first time I do it.

Just to update: I've bought a Revitt Eclipse from Sportsbikeshop.

Good choice. I've got the jacket and it flows a lot of air. I notice they now do matching trousers as well but I prefer jeans for hot weather.

^ used it all day yesterday in full sun and high 20s. Cool as a cucumber. Infact I felt a bit chilly on the motorway and was thinking of putting something warmer on

MC Gear Hub has just reviewed several mesh jackets – the Klim Induction jacket and its competitors from Rev’it, Rukka, Spidi, etc:

Some of the Richa jackets have 3 layers; just mesh, mesh with windproof inner, and then all three is the same plus a thermal liner. Zip and button together well.

Only short (non GS length) length ones I have found with this. Means you can use the same jacket all year round by detaching layers as required. Armour and back protector present with all layer combo's.

It’s worth checking the MotoCAP test results. MotoCAP knows a bit about what’s comfortable in the heat because it’s based in Australia, and you can sort their product tests in breathability order.

And as mesh jackets often have lower protection, MotoCAP’s safety test results are helpful to know. The downside is they only test what’s available down under (we get a slightly broader gear range in Blighty).

I have an old Joe Rocket that I've had for many years - very cool, but I hope never come off while wearing it. No longer available.

I also have a Alpinestars AST Air Textile, which is more robust, but less well ventilated. It's OK.

Leather with large mesh panels is the better choice for protection.

The first option is better for protection but the second will flow even more air and is lighter.

It depends what bike you ride, but I really like my Adventure Spec mongolia jacket. It's mostly mesh so brilliant in this weather.

Just to tie this thread off....

Using my new Revitt Eclipse jacket this morning out in the Peak District. WOW WHAT A REVELATION. Feels so much lighter and freer than my leather jacket. Its like riding in a t-shirt.

I'm planning to buy a back protector to beef up the protection, but for £129 it does the job.

I have that jacket too, the shoulder and elbow pockets will take level 2 D3O armour and the back pocket takes a slightly modified D3O level 2 back protector I took out of another leather jacket. In France last month in 44C heat I was obviously hot but didn't overheat once moving.

I have also decided, having used this jacket for a year now, that I'm never going back to leather. The freedom of movement and lightness the mesh jackets offer makes biking much more enjoyable, the the point I'd happily go out in 30C heat today if I wasn't at work and I'd never do that in leather, even with the vents open.

What I will do is look at a stronger mesh jacket for longer journeys and keep the Rev'it for local use, it is a bit weak for high speed.

I’ve had a Knox urbane pro for a couple of years and live in the Middle East. It’s a great bit of kit for hot weather and can be added to with base layers, outer shells etc so not just single season if you live in uk.
