To seal or not to seal…

My old DT175 tank is somewhat rusty and tatty. It’s not leaking yet, but for when it does, I have bought a clean (inside) second hand tank. The “new” tank needs a dent removing and paint. Whilst getting it restored, I am thinking about getting it sealed, even though it is in good condition, to reduce risk of future corrosion. But I hear good and bad stories about sealing and am wondering whether I will spoil a good tank. I know I can drain the tank over winter etc, but that will be a bit of a faff and corrosion could still set in over the years.
I would send it to a professional outfit for repair, cleaning, sealing and paint.
So good idea / bad idea…. Sealing a good tank?

On a Harry's Garage channel and/or his farming channel he mentions more expensive storage fuel he buys in a large plastic container that he can leave in his Combine Harvester for years at a time that I think he may have said he also uses in one or some of his toys.

I'd avoid sealing the tank at all costs, personally. Everyone did it as a matter of course with 'Petseal' or similar back in the day as a precaution and now the enthanol attacks that. Removing isn't easy! We had to have the bottom cut out of one tank and refitted once clean in one tank, couldn't get it all out otherwise.
Storage wise, we don't do anything special. Always run all the bikes on premium (low ethanol) fuel but generally don't use anything and haven't had any issues other than those caused by the old Petseal in bike tanks we've bought with it in.

Avgas has quite a lot of lead in it - about 4 times as much as four-star petrol used to have. So make sure it doesn't go anywhere near a vehicle with a cat fitted...

Interesting. what's the method for using this? do you run the tank almost dry then pour this in and run the engine for a while to get it into the fuel system?Bit pricey but probably worth the effort for a classic bike.
