Bike Delivery and Inspection

Seen a bike I am interested in buying however I am in Newcastle and its on the South Coast. Why is every bike I like the look of at the apposite end of the country!

Can anyone recommend a bike haulier they have used who would inspect the bike and deliver it. If there was something wrong with the bike I would happily pay them for their time.

I bought form Sycamore Yamaha recently (Uppingham) and they had a chap deliver it (Exeter), and take my part ex back, in a van for £150.
Seemed fair enough for a bloke for a full day plus van.

Most dealers and indies have bike couriers they regularly deal with and you can get some good offers from them. You'll have to inspect on delivery but I believe you're covered by the disance sellers act if something is wrong with it - plus most dealers and indies are quite good and wanting to set things straight if you do find niggles.

If buying privately though I'd definitely go in person not only to inspect the bike but also get a feel for the previous owner, especially if it has been self serviced by them - I'd like to know if they are the type that sees a regualr service as just and oil and filter change and new tyres and brakes pads as needed or if they are the type to have been thorough on all the minor details.

I recently bought a Low Rider S from Bristol and had it transported to me in Scotland by Trojan Transport. They do deliveries nationwide for £199 flat fee and their set up is brilliant. The bike was secured in the back of their van using proper equipment, I received a photo after it had been loaded and they had the bike to me within a couple of days. Best thing is a call a couple of Couriers and see what they say

I presume you've already called and had a long chat with the owner and carried out an HPi check ?

I've used a few, the last guy was pretty good, took a whatsapp video and went around the bike for me

If you have to book them for a particular time (as opposed to just pick it up in the next 5 days) they can be pretty expensive ie £250 ish

Last time i had a Bike transported from the South Coast of Englandshire up here to Scotland i used Dave Bryant DB Motorcycle Logistics,
He was Trusted to deliver alot of the Foggy Petronas Bikes to their new owners & his prices are very reasonable.
Cant rate him highly enough…….

I've not seen one that will inspect before they bring it to you.

only way to have that service, if it even still exists, is to get an AA report (I think the RAC did it too). Cost about £200 to get one many moons ago, and that was for cars, don't even know if they do it for bikes.

Ask for high res shots, be specific, as for documentation of ALL damage, any mark, scratch, scrape etc

If all fails, you will be on the hook for the delivery (potentially) depending on the dealer, and some even for the return....

Make a day of it, book a train ticket/cheap flight, ride it home. Never a better way to bond with a bike than by doing a good long day out on it on day 1
