Well I’ve had my Triumph Explorer for 7 years now (alongside other bikes) and I don’t have any plans to change it.
If I was buying a new bike to do everything it would be another adventure bike, probably a Tiger 1200 or multistrada.
Although the new motoguzzi does look really good, but I think it may be a bit small for me.

My one bike would be a Kawasaki H2 SX SE. It's the best "do everything" bike for tarmac that there is. From commuting to track days to Alpine passes to autobahn max mph runs to crossing continents in comfort with a pillion and luggage, it'll do them all, with style. That's why I already have one!

Hurl the abuse, I'm ready.
I wanted a bike purely for commuting/leaving in town with free parking, and the odd longer trip.

I've been surprised how well it rides, full length Showa forks.
And under 6 bags brand new. ADV-350
I'd have had 750 bigger brother, but legs are way too short.
Are they a load shorter than the 750 then? I can't even seem to find one to sit on, I am cursed with lack of inside leg length (29inch) so this sort of thing may appeal??I wanted a bike purely for commuting/leaving in town with free parking, and the odd longer trip.

I'm also 29" inside leg, I just about cope.

Fast (enough) sporty (enough for someone who’s just turned 50) comfortable and looks good.
What’s more it doesn’t come with a ludicrous price tag. You can see why they are so popular. A lot of people have cited Adventure Bikes. However they are just not for me, as IMHO they are the MPV / SUV / Cross Over (or whatever name they have this week) of the bike world. Fine if you take them off road of course.

Most likely something by Honda (for reliability and longevity) and something mid capacity so I could afford the petrol. Possibly CB500X, possibly Forza 350.
Sensible, even boring, choices I know but 10 years is a long time and the bike would be on 100k by then and I would still want to be riding it as opposed to fixing it.

That’s a good analogy to be fair. They’re not for everyone, if you’re not long in the leg then I can see many not being comfortable or confident, though I know a lot who do cope perfectly even on tippy toes. I notice the latest multistrada iirc has electronic height that reduced at very slow speed. That said, they’re not just for off road, they are superb on our typical crap roads just like SUV’s they soak up bumps, ripples, potholes and yumps, cross country I feel more confident pressing on with the Caponord than a Tuono and on most roads can probably go faster than on a sports bike!
If it was a 'real' bike, then I'd currently have a BMW R1250RS, best all round bike I've ever ridden. I've ridden one over many thousands of miles and they're more than quick enough, handle well and all day comfy.
This year for my own motorcycling, my fzs1000 hasn't been on the round so I've been using (just sold) a BMW C400GT scooter, what an absolute hoot, all the bells and whistles (heated grips and seat) very economical and would happily run at 80+ all day. So I'd seriously consider a larger scooter as an all rounder. I'm already looking for the C400's replacement.
